| Sheffield United v Swansea City : Match day thread on 16:51 - Apr 3 by Dr_Winston | There have been flashes from him since we signed him where you can see why he's been so highly valued in the past. Consistency seems to be his biggest problem. He's got all the physical attributes he needs. |
Certainly a player who brings players into the game with his hold up play.

There's an interesting contrast in styles between him and Vipi. When ZV gets the ball it's usually a quick, often one touch flick into space for a runner to get onto. Rarely will he actually hold onto the ball for any length of time. As you say, Idah seems more the type to hold the ball up then lay it off. It gives us options when one way isn't working, and we've missed it during his layoff. Cullen is pretty hopeless at it.

Good come back, we looked vulnerable against the break because our midfield gets out of shape, someone has to be looking to provide some cover - the midfield can't all take up wide or attacking positions and you have to sprint to get back and cover!

Theoretically that's what Stamenic is supposed to be doing as the #6.

Yes, and if he is out of position someone has to provide cover, Stamenic has a habit of jogging back into position.

Not seen much in him to suggest that he's what we need playing in that fulcrum role, and we've got better players for the other positions in midfield.

He has got all the attributes, he gives the impression that he's playing at half pace. We have some good players but we seldom seem to really get it together.

The times we've seen him play quicker than that have been few and far between. I think he's an asset in a more physical game, but he's just not been good enough at either setting the tempo of our play or as you say, being where he needs to be sometimes.

Getting caught out of position is often his reason for Stamenic getting yellow cards, currently 11 in 31 games played.

| Sheffield United v Swansea City : Match day thread on 19:11 - Apr 3 with 1761 views | Joesus_Of_Narbereth | Would like to see Idah alongside Vipi, think his physicality and directness would open up more space, in the same way Akinfenwa would draw attention away from Trundle. Think this one up front lark in the modern game makes things far too easy for the centre backs. | |

Agree with that. It was a very enjoyable watch as far as entertainment goes but our defence was like a Carry On film. Seriously I’m not sure I would have started with Burgess or Stamenic due to jet lag….last 15 mins but not starting. Very impressed with the subs and in the end I thought we were unfortunate not to get all 3pts.
| Sheffield United v Swansea City : Match day thread on 20:46 - Apr 3 with 1603 views | RichardO | Think I would prefer to see Stamenic further forward really don't think he is comfortable in the sitting midfielder role he doesn't seem to see the danger around him and unwilling to step up and show for the fullbacks or wingers, for fear of leaving us exposed, that midfield isn't working properly it seems disconnected unable to link the forwards and support them or provide the cover for the defence as required keeping things tight, the hold up play after the substitutions helped but so did the changes made also the defence could attack lose ball from Sheffield United because we push up able to win the second ball because we put in quicker crosses and were more varied in attack. | | | |

Like all the substitutions Cullen did a good job, linking midfield to attack.

We need to find another Leon type and another Joey Allen, they had a unique understanding of each other we used to rule the middle of the park in a lot of the games we played, we came a little unstuck with the taller physical players on time's, but that changed when Leroy Fer was here, three players who were great for us.

Stamenic is too slow getting back to cover and leaves players unmarked, gets caught with the ball a lot too Our defence is awful when long ball’s are hit towards them and if the ball is allowed to bounce we usually concede Hamer was allowed to run through the midfield with time and space to pick his spot for the first goal and nobody closed him down or even challenged him For their second goal none of our midfield made an effort to chase back and defend ,and for the third , Cannon was also allowed space and time Throw in some appalling passes in our own defensive third and it was no wonder we found ourselves 3-1 down Really good spirit and fight by our subs to come back to 3-3 though and we looked the more likely to win it at the end Why Cullen came on again though is confusing surely Walta should have been given a chance

Live Stamenić, he will make the club a lot of money sooner than we think 😉
