It’s strange how people don’t mention Johnson’s spend on similar schemes. 20:times more than the Welsh spend. How odd.
| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Because we were not voting for a Westminster government and we were voting on policies in Wales and Welsh spending in a Senedd election.

| Election on 22:30 - May 12 by majorraglan | Well, we never heard a peep from certain sections of the media at the Westminster elections about Boris’s spending on rainforests, but the media certainly made an issue of it during the Senedd election! I believe that what we’ve seen from certain quarters is hypocrisy, and in the grand scheme of things it’s my belief that the Uganda rainforest issue is an example of a mountain being made out of a mole hill, but that’s my view. In my opinion there are 2 Welsh issues which have damaged the Welsh Labour Party, the first is the 20mph speed limit - we’ve had 500,000 people sign a petition which reflects the strength of feeling against the policy and while there’s been some tinkering around the edges following the backlash, by enlarge things have barely changed. The second issue is the increase in AM’s - I get that we’ve lost MP’s but we didn’t need more AM’s particularly when we’ve got 21 local authorities in Wales! Another factor was Vaughan Gething and the £200k contribution to his leadership campaign!! I am glad Labour have been booted out, they deserved to be sacked. Eluned Morgan inherited a poison chalice, but I have no sympathy for her, she can suck it up and do one! I am not a Labour Party member, Labour supporter and have never voted for them. I’m just trying to be objective. Edit - another issue for those of us living in South Wales or South West Wales I’ll throw in the lack of a relief road around Newport - it’s @@@@in scandalous! The overarching issue was Drakeford. But as I've said before the Welsh electorate have to take some of the blame. We re-elected him on a pledge of a 20 mph speed limit and more MS's, after he dismissed the M4 relief road. Within 6 weeks he'd halted all road building in Wales. It was only the implemention of the 20mph speed limit that made people wake up. Let's see what Plaid do. I'm not too hopeful. | | | |

Plaid will have to improve things to show that they can govern, their long term aim is independence and without showing that they can improve Wales that will never happen. Currently if there was a referendum Plaid know that they would not get a mandate for independence. Turn things around this time and show improvement and they may get another term, fail and they will be out. They will need a couple of terms of improvement to get where they want to be, even then they may not win a referendum.

"Let's see what Plaid do. I'm not too hopeful" You can forget that Relief road and can expect more wasteful full spending of our money. Solar Canoes, Ugandan Trees, more offices in far off lands and welcome the 36 new Am's at a cost of 120 million +. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Jo Stevens, the Welsh Secretary, has put forward her take on what happened and it does not reflect well on Drakeford: "somewhere along the way, the party became distracted by causes that were miles away from the bread-and-butter issues that people care about the most." https://www.walesonline.co.uk/

| Election on 10:00 - May 11 by AnotherJohn | I looked up "Dr Q. Manivannan" (the new Green MSP), wondering if "they" could indeed be a doctor studying for a PhD (which can happen with medical doctors who fancy moving across into research). Actually, despite the Dr title "they" give themselves, Q's degrees are a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Humanities and an M.Phil in Peace Studies. Q is registered to undertake PhD studies at St Andrews linked to an ESRC project on "Archiving and (Re)imagining Caregiving as Peacebuilding in Third World Social Movements" (a project mainly about Indian protest movements). Looks like a bit of a fibber. I see that Dave Paulden's latest terminological inexactitude concerning his CV and claimed work history with the Justice Department is also in the news. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/ https://www.telegraph.co.uk/po [Post edited 11 May 10:03]

Well, they said that independence was not on the table at this stage but st the very first opportunity he brings it up. Already going against his election promises. I believe it did happen by the way though I wasn’t there, clearly.

There would need to be a referendum and Plaid know they currently wouldn't win. It would be foolish for them to fail in a vote by having a referendum to early.

It was on the BBC site about a week ago. He talked about it (independent Wales) but ruled it out in the first term. He said he would raise a commission to gauge the support for an independent state. So there we have it, as a local protest against what is "seen" an English nationalist party in the devolved election we have independence on the cards.

Well it’s definitely not influenced by common sense. I’ll say it again, many Welsh Nats would vote for Independence even if it was a cast iron certainty that the country would be a 100x worse off. It’s not about that to them, it’s (perceived) ‘freedom!’.

Currently there is nothing to worry about, if there was a referendum tomorrow the vote would be no. Plaid would need to show that it would work and the only way they can do that is make major improvements for the people in Wales. In my opinion that can not be done in one term.

You’re applying common sense to your argument. But we live in strange times politically and anything is possible. You could vote Reform in, they don’t do well you can vote them out. You vote PC and a knee jerk reaction vote in a referendum could cause irreparable damage to Wales and the union. There’ll be no going back. I agree though, it’s not going to happen this term. Hopefully they’ll FUBAR.

I agree with you, Plaid Cymru have to prove they can make a massive positive impact to generate any momentum towards independence. Given that around 21% of Wales’s population was born in England I’d say they’re miles off getting enough support.

Love them or hate them Sais are our next door neighbours so we live with them . As an aside it is great to see the SNP imploding on Front page news headlines and the mess the following incumbents have to clear up . Sure some of our past candidates at the Senedd are quickly moving the skeletons from their cupboards asap .
