| Has Burnham focussed yet on the National debt? 23:07 - Aug 6 with 10567 views | ReslovenSwan1 | With out doubt one of the biggest issues is national debt. It is currently hitting £3 Trillion. (A Trillion is a thousand billion.) £3,000,000,000,000. For each citizen the debt is £43,000 and growing. The debt really kicked on after the £500 billion bankers bail out of 2009 when it was less than £1 Trillion. The second spike was the Covid related borrowing for furlough and infrastructure etc 2020 -2021. https://commonslibrary.parliam I do not know what Burnham's priorities are but if it is not reducing the deficit and then debt then he is just fiddling on the roof while the house burns beneath him. When Starmer tried to trim the budget his Chancellor was seen sobbing n the House of Commons after folding to MP pressure. He has no election for 3 years so should take unpopular decisions and cut the deficit first and then the debt. Reform and Plaid in the Senedd is concentrating on Gender definition. If Wales went independent our share of the debt would be £150 billion. (5% of the total debt) UK interest payment of this debt annually is £110 billion. There are food banks all over Europe, it shouldn't be necessary but it is, we are not so unequal. Did Thatcher make the decisions for Europe and leave a legacy. Keep digging. | | | |

It's necessary because of right wing neo liberal capitalist policies that have taken over large parts of the World, the mega rich are hoovering up all the wealth and everyone else is getting poorer. The mega rich own the media and own the politicians, Farage is said to have been given 5 million pounds, if he gets into power he will be doing what rich backers want him to do and that will only serve to further benefit the rich and further disadvantage the less well off.

Brown is credited with saving the World in some quarters during the banking financial crisis in 2008, the rest of the World copied Brown to get out of the crisis. |
It was 83% Income Tax and 15% Investment Income Surcharge. Top rate was 98%, so the top earners left. Just have a look at our economy from 1974 to 1979. That's what high taxation does.

Pity he has not show the same passion and commitment to take a trip to Dover and see the real at home issues which need addressing first . Politicians and photo opportunities , you have got to love them .

The Government is spending like a US Sailor currently on shore leave in Thailand. Eventually things will have to be cut. Everyone with any sense knows it, but politicians keep pandering to morons and freeloaders in the electorate who expect everything to be "free", and there's millions of them.

If we are in trouble then also large parts of the World can also be said to be in trouble because their bonds are at historical high levels also, we are no different in that respect, I think I read the otherday that the USA, France, and Japan bonds amongst others are very high as well. Liz Truss went because she could not pay for the millions or was it billions in money she was going to give to the rich via tax cuts, which would have been self inflicted dullness, this time round it is not self inflicted as one of the main reasons for the high bond yields now is the USA v Iran war affecting things like oil prices and inflation hence why there is a bonds crisis in lots of economy's.

We have the highest rates in the G7. Twice that of Japan and higher than Greece! Its not just about rates, look up what the Dutch are doing with their gold.

| Has Burnham focussed yet on the National debt? on 07:15 - Sep 8 with 682 views | Dr_Winston | Chris Rokos, Britain's third highest taxpayer last year relocates to Greece, where his tax bill on foreign income next year will be £100,000 instead of £330m. This is what happens when the people in charge and a worryingly high number of the electorate have no understanding of how finance works and are driven by hatred and envy rather than sense. He alone contributed the same amount of tax as nearly 30,000 households paying the median, but it's Billionaires that are the problem apparently. | |

The problem is many politicians are career politicians and have no experience working in business or finance, ideology does not work in the real world. The Conservatives in the 80s reduced the higher tax band and tax revenue increased, in the 90s Labour reduced the lower tax band and and tax revenue increased. Yes these are different times but the underlying principle is the same, tax people too much and they will find ways to legally reduce their tax liabilities and you will receive less tax. I can understand some posters on here with no understanding of business or finance sprouting ridiculous idealistic rubbish, but for the government to do the same is pure folly.
