Not uncommon for young players adjusting to a new league/country. In the past we've criticised and sometimes discarded them. Maybe this time they'll get a chance to adapt properly? |  |

Excellent win tonight and a dynamic first half performance to stamp our authority on the game. It was so nice to see Welsh and Lissah pass forwards and through the lines the first 20 minutes to break the press and get us moving forward on the break.
I have nothing against Cabango and Burgess but it makes a huge difference when you can play out from the back through the high press rather than just pass it back to the keeper. I hope this continues as it makes a huge difference to our game.
We seem to be much more balanced now with added pace and a counter attack in our armoury which is required to succeed in this league. Kudos to the coaching team and players so far for addressing some of the issues that have held us back previously. |
Was amazing to watch.
Our squad depth is deeper than I have seen since our prem days.
Best defence in the league with our first choice CB pairing injured. Personally I’d have these as first choice.
But I couldn’t be happier.

What I really liked about Welsh tonight was the way he was marshaling the defence. He was controlling the line to push the forwards back and compress the midfield, I lost count of the number of times we caught the forwards offside. |

Excellent so far. My only disappointment is that Opoku is again less effective than last time out. Missed a real sitter as the ball rebounded from the post, and has not made the most of some good positions. Even taking account of his two goals so far (both deflections), one would have to say he is not that clinical. Let us hope that he snaps back into gear. [Post edited 1 Sep 20:45]

I know it wasn't a particularly stern test last night due to our dominance, but Lissah will be some player eh? Not seen a range of passing on a defender at the Swans since Ash...and so comfortable with the ball at his feet.
17 passes into the final third between him and Welsh and the only "long" balls I saw were accurate pinged passes out to the wing - the one Lissah played to Eom who would have been clean through if not clipped was sensational.

Lissah and Welsh have been a breath of fresh air , two outstanding ball playing centre halves, cool ,calm and supremely talented, their impact has been immense and they are probably only going to get better
If we have aspirations to get promoted these are the type of players we need
Will we be able to keep them if they keep playing the way they are,let’s hope so
Matos has pointed out that other transfer windows are still open and Zan could still be a target for continental teams, am I the only one to get the impression we are trying to get Zan out , why ?? , he’s been a model pro in his time with us, got treated really shabbily by the previous managers but kept his head down,got on with the job , never caused a problem ,then ,last season when given the chance, produced the goods in bucket’s,exactly the type of player we need now , especially if we want to get promoted

As near to a perfect first half as you could want. We made space to allow us to play through the middle, down the flanks or behind their defence. In some ways it reminded me of our game against PNE where Martin changed his tactics played 4-3-3 with Manning on the wing and had Joe Allen and Grimes pulling the strings to enable us to go to 3-0 in the first half.
Opoku made the Watford fullback struggle.Eom playing with energy and Idah bossing his markers In many respects we played by numbers from my seat you could see the training ground moves but the passing was quick and considered options where made for the man on the ball by players who made themselves available for the ball but the movement also created gaps to be exploited.
The trios of Just, Opoku and Key works, we know Tymon and Eom have an understanding and the experienced Eustaquio helped but the movement and passing at the back of Lissah and Welsh made it all tick.
As for Opoku having a bad day he didn't give the full back any rest, he may have tried thing to outwit a good defender that didn't quite come off but he was quick to recover any mistakes made, he was relentless as was Eom would they tire after all the work they put in we have seen wingers fade later on in games and replaced by previous managers, did Opoku pull out of challenges at times, as was pointed out to me at the time on reflection yes but who expected him to be in the starting eleven given his injury.
The second half was a little more cautious reducing the risk of a comeback but we did cause our own problems at times trying to play too much at the back and given the edge of caution a little less movement through the middle. We still caused them problems but kept things tight.
Opoku and Eom both looked spent and needed changing as did others given the work put in. [Post edited 3 Sep 11:25]
