| Reform - surely this has to be the end? on 13:39 - Sep 4 by Demitrius | They are all hypocrites - they are all at it as financing a political party is expensive so if someone offers you £500,000 and there is a way of legally getting that in the coffers you'll do it. Starmer's wardrobe, Rayner's houses, Reeves's CV......All now yesterday's chip papers... Reform are being targeted at the moment on the eve of their conference as they present a clear and present threat to the status quo - a status quo that has done nothing but knife the British people in the back for 30 years. They have all made money out of doing so. Is Farage a grifter? Probably, but he's no more of a grifter than a whole host of political leaders I can think of including the monotone robot that has just resigned as PM and an MP - tells you all about his commitment to the working man's cause. The reason people will look beyond this latest storm in a teacup is because Reform have made all the right noises on immigration, net zero, a weak economy, benefit scroungers, public sector waste and maladministration, law and order etc. You may not like that but these draconian policies are central to their existence and the vast majority of people will vote for them because the other parties have proved themselves totally unwilling to do anything this far for decades on these issues out of political cowardice and corruption... If Reform get in and fail to deliver they will be out on their ear at the ballot box. Twas ever thus but a political hand-grenade is needed to shake things up and realistically Reform fits that role. I'm not sure Joe Public gives a flying rat's arse about some party donations and is more concerned about the dodgy looking blokes hanging round the local park and the uncollected refuse in the street. |
Reform are being exposed not targeted. Any other political leader ever recieved a £5 million gift? I don't think it's down to the people to look beyond it, it's exactly the same as the ongoing investigation from the Cottrell family currently being investigated by the Met.

But there'll almost certainly be another Clacton by-election before Xmas, where Farage will have this rammed down his throat because the other parties will stand. He doesn't react well to that kind of thing, becasue he knows those doing the ramming are correct. He'll flip. To get to that point he'll be found to have not declared a donation he should have declared. The biggest donation to an individual in UK political history, by a good few thousand %. Then there's the outcome of the Metropolitan police investigation in to the Cottrell family donation, they could end up with a criminal conviction against them. This expose could lead to a similar investigation. Nobody needs to bend over backwards to get them, they make it very easy.

I wonder who said this regarding the last Clacton By Election. Remembering Reform had an increase in actual votes and voting percentage. No agenda, we have heard it all before. I'm pretty certain Farage V Binface is the only thing Reform didn't plan for. Farage can't come out of this well. He's going to look like an idiot at or as a best case scenario end up in exactly the same place he was yesterday morning. There's a huge opportunity for the Tory's here, this could be the end of Reform. Let Restore take the Right. Badenoch shift a bit to the centre and one nation conservatism and they could be back.

The last paragraph is bang on imo. British politics needs a strong (One Nation) Tory party. In regard to the lastest Reform thing, it won't make a blind bit of difference. I'll stick to my predicton that Reform's GE peak is about 25% and when we get there Farage won't be leader.

This currentl Reform publicity if anything is gaining them more support because the British public don't like the press acting as they do, the Clacton result is testament to this. You are probably correct that Farage will not be leader then, I just wonder if this will actually benifit them or not. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

"Farage can't come out of this well. He's going to look like an idiot at or as a best case scenario end up in exactly the same place he was yesterday morning." Which is exactly where he is, although now with being caught on camera clearly being prepared to accept illegal donations to his party in a Clacton beer garden during his campaign. If he hadn't resigned - he wouldn't have been caught. I'd say that's made him look like an idiot and the investigation restarted the morning after his re-election, so he's now in a worse place than when he resigned. He has no more legitimacy in winning Clacton (again) becasue he had no serious opposition. If he hadn't got more votes and an increased percentage then he should have been really worried, he did beat a bin in to second place though. All of the other 34 candidates (apart from one) seem to be worse than him. Also the turnout was 14% lower than the 2024 general election. It was a waste of time. "There's a huge opportunity for the Tory's here, this could be the end of Reform. Let Restore take the Right. Badenoch shift a bit to the centre and one nation conservatism and they could be back." If the Tories can't pull this off - and soon - then I have to question Badenoch's ability and longevitiy.

Has he broken the law? What I have seen is unethical, similar to tax limitation when you bend the rules, but has he actually broken the law. Of course it leaves a bad taste but I think we are used to it by now with politicians. In recent years we have seen the rules bent by Conservative and Labour cabinet ministers, its nothing new.

I don't think we can take anything from the Clacton result. He faced a bin in the strongest Reform seat in the country. We'll have another election there soon and I still don't think it will tell us much.

I don't think so. Reform may have broken the law with the Cottrell donation and were obviously prepared to that in this case, and Farage was complicit. I think the most severe punishment is a huge fine for the party not Farage himself. His £5 million gift isn't illegal, just immoral, corrupt and against the rules of parliament.

The court case will determine whether he broke the law or not. He wasn't an MP when he received the gift. However, when you become an MP, you have to declare any qualifying gifts from the previous 12 months. So, I don't think he has a defence on the timescale. That brings us on to the gift itself. Were there any strings attached or was it a gift to help with his protection? Nobody really knows and let's hope for an honest inquiry to find out.
| Reform - surely this has to be the end? on 19:05 - Sep 4 with 892 views | trampie | It's a major worry the influence that foreign powers have over our politicians, the Israeli lobby seem to have lots of money and is particularly strong and influential with groups in Labour, Conservatives, Lib Dems and Reform (not in the Greens or Plaid mind) . Farage is said to have recieved 5 millions pounds from a Thai businessman. Gill jailed for taking bribes from pro Russians. The last thing I seen about the problem of foreign influence over our politicians is now that arms manufacturers have influence over our politicians as well as the Israeli lobby. | |

I can't remember Channel 4 ever being called the establishment before. In fact I'm quite sure some of their investigative work has been used on here as reliable evidence many times in the past. If it was the BBC saying this I'd understand the responses but it's Channel 4. For the record I'm not a fan of Labour or the further right and I see farage as a danger to this country. He's too close to Trump and all the stupid stuff we see in the USA, it scares me that he'd do similar here.

Our governments of the last 40 years and have brought us to this, Reform are every bit as bad as any of them. They say what happens in the USA always comes to the Uk, if people are happy with Trumps behaviour and want that in the UK then crack on with Reform. From my point of view we have a MAGA style cult developing coninced that all being said about Reform and Farage is the establishment trying to stop a grreat man from taking power but MAGA turned out to be full of shit and Trumps actions have caused all of us to have higher bills.

Farage himself doesn't know. He claimed it was for security (in most cases that's paid for by the state) then a reward for Brexit (clearly political, should have been declared) and then a no strings attached personal gift. Of course the elephant in the room is who gave the gift and what did Reform change after Farage received the gift. Or perhaps it should be referred to as a bribe? Unfortunately there won't be a court case, that's the problem. This should be illegal, across the political spectrum.

People see only truth in the lies and lies in the truth, they see that because they want to. If this channel 4 story was on Andy Burnham they'd be crying out for criminal charges. If it was about Bojo they'd be screaming throw away the key. But it's Farage and the cult that has followed him is strong like MAGA and just like in the USA when the cult strtaed to wake up a lot of damage had been done. From what I read a lot of MAGA Americans are turning away fom Trump, his popularity is dropping in all but the most stupid and ignorant. Maybe those who be;ieve in Farage will get there before he gets to the top seat. The next question is, will we find a leader who can actually turn this country around or are we doomed? Lets face it, we hope to get good politicians but they come from us, they go through our schools and colleges but "garbage in, garbage out and when you look at society in general, where are the good people coming from, the rich, self serving, greedy entitled crowd or the poor grasping, greedy, selfish self serving crowd? There's a lot of people in between who might make good leaders but aren't interested.

Farage is an idiot, a clever idiot maybe but still an idiot😁. His childish reaction to the heckler at the conference with his false laughing and his cries of “boring, boring” made him sound like a 10 year old in the school yard. But, we need something to get this country proud again and if it has to be him then so be it. I’d prefer Rupert Lowe but I can’t see Restore being strong enough in the next election. Definitely not if Labour call one next spring as is rumoured.
