Preston 81’

For me this was a defining moment in Swans history. Preston away.
Got home on Monday morning. Gear box fell out of the car, literally ten miles from Preston. Stuck our our thumbs at the service station, we were picked up by no other than the great Ian Callaghan. Nothing else mattered. After the game it was spicy. Got back to the car and held the gear box in the car with plastic bags, they caught fire a few times and we slept on the side of the road in north Wales somewhere. Early Sunday morning farmer knocks on the car window and invites us in for a right proper breakfast. We hit Aberystwyth by 7pm that day pulled over by the cops and told to not go any further. 4am that Monday we did the final 60 miles to Haverfordwest and at no time in that journey did we go faster than 30mph. A lot less at times and hit sixty on a free roll downhill. All done without a motorway.

All in my first ever book. 1998 i think.

Yes, there’s also a bit on my mate who threw his Mrs bit of stuff out of the window when a Swans game was cancelled on the day 😂

I travelled home from DErbyshire once with a gearbox held in place by a block of wood as one locating point failed.

Was right behind it, I think there were a good few Blackburn fans at the game. Something to do with relegation from memory.

I drove to Leeds once and as I drew level with the Peacock pub the exhaust fell off my Vauxhall Belmont right in front of a load of Leeds fans .It was about an hour before kick off so I drove to a back street garage who kindly wrapped some welding wire round it to hold it in place. Jobs a good un .

Yep I was there with my Mrs and a couple of her brothers Leighton, Tommy Craig and Charlo scored .
Mrs had England on, luckily for me she's taken Lad out his room to get him ready for bed and I've switched over, the commentary has been excruciating

Peacock was welcoming wasn’t it
Especially when exiting the stadium
They seemed to like waving at opposing fans

From my dubious memory.

They had to beat Bristol Rovers to be promoted as long as we lost. A bunch who couldn't get tickets for that game came along to support Preston.

But unfortunately we didn't lose.

Blackburn supporters buses stopping at the same services as our buses before the game but on opposite sides of the motorway, joined by an overhead walkway. Can't remember anything too untoward happening though.

From memory I think Swans went into the last game level on points with Blackburn but with a much better goal difference.

Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

If we had lost we would have sent Cardiff down

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Might be a repeat this season that they need our help. Not having a dig it is competitive at the bottom of the championship without money being spent. Moyan might save them or goals upfront. Some teams stay up because there is always 3 teams worse than them. We struggled for years without a plan and sell anything and everything bar Alan Curtis kettle. I think Charlton will go from what I have seen.

Eustaquio has been playing well lately but we're well stocked in midfield. If we're going to lose a player, that is the position to lose one in. More than happy for Fulton to step in if needed.

RB is going to be an issue if Key's absence is a long one. We need depth there far more than we need another winger.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Franco can also step in but on a plus having stewart back, hes got a bot of class about him, he knows where the goal is, its a big positive possibly having another attacking option on the bench.

Be interesting to see what starting lineup we go for. A lot of players would have done a lot of airmiles during the break. Wouldn't be surprised to see players like Eom and Stamenic start on the bench.
