| French Economy in Trouble on 18:40 - Oct 8 by Dr_Winston | If the EU was capable of self-reflection it probably wouldn't exist in its current form. |
Restructure is the way it will go. The EU is already very different from 2016. If they really do want the UK to rejoin that may be the extra push restructure needs otherwise we'll still say no/non/nein.

| French Economy in Trouble on 07:22 - Oct 12 by Dr_Winston | Seems fairly obvious given the renewed emphasis on this Russian "interference" cobblers and the rushed attempts to overturn voter ID requirements that the stage is being set to bounce us back in via a dodgy referendum. Seems that the same people who welcomed Barack Obama stating that an independent UK would be at the back of the queue for a trade deal in the event of Brexit, and spent millions sending pro-EU propaganda to every household now have a problem with Government intervention in a supposed demcratic vote. The problem for them is that they seem to have difficulty providing any actual evidence of it. |
Burnham says so and we should accept it, well I don't. Even if he produces proof I'll be cynically asking, who invented this? All this yalk of intervention from forign actors, if the government had told us the truth in the first place we would never even have joined the EU because they KNEW, they knew political integration was part of the plan. They also knew the British people back then would never have gone for it. All those people who had fought in WW2, who had risked literally everything to keep this country sovereign would never have agreed to the EU. Now we have young people screaming us older ones have screwed them while at the same time saying they wouldn't fight for this country if there was a war. They want all the good stuff without any of the effort and can't even see how ruined the country is. Shall I liken it to those countries from where people flee to come here. One day soon people may be fleeing Europe if things aren't sorted out. Russia is pushing hard, the USA is being crazy, the middle east is a tinderbox again. Where will people run to?

Foreign Secretary on the news earlier said that the Russian interference was “unsuccessful”. I doubt our intelligence services are innocent when it comes to influencing elections around the world either. It’s the sort of thing I imagine every country does. When we do it it’s “diplomacy”.

Embarrassing for Burnham he’s only been in a few weeks and he’s already got MI5 and his own foreign secretary ‘fact correcting’ him.

Excuse me for being a cynic but are other factors involved in these riots are part of the bigger threat to France from unknown sources . Marsaille seems to be an area viewed with caution if visiting , now Paris on the list too . Could say the same about areas around me though , enter at your own personal risk .

An old colleague of mine lives in Paris, she says social media has been awash with calls to take to the streets for the last few weeks. The far left politicians are stirring it up.

Ahhhhhh the 'left', the ones who bang on about tolerance, and whom are more concerned about correct pronouns and language usage, whilst getting on a crusade using invisible-trip wire manufactured offence to further their warped beliefs. But yet? Support societal catastrophe, illegal immigration, the abandonment of border control, and riots etc! And they seriously believe that they are the good guys!

Unfortunately the EU is falling apart with its open borders etc. When we left the EU our economy was small than France. Despite covid, the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Trumps war in Iran and two years of labour taxing UK business, the IK economy has overtaken France.. Still some people think we would be better off in the EU, despite us having to pay £20 billion a year in extra taxes to join.

Greece, Italy, France, Belgium and Spain all have higher national debts, as a proportion of GDP than the UK.

Rejoining the EU would mean that Burnham and co could basically hand over the running of the UK to someone else, someone who thinks and acts like them whilst never facing the actual risks of an election, This has the added bonus of maintaining the pretence of being in charge but having a convenient scapegoat to blame when things went wrong. It's the ideal situation for a useless politician, which is why so many of them are in favour of it and would rush us back in tomorrow if they thought that they could get away with it. I've never been much of a conspiracy theorist, but an entire continental elite all suddenly acting the same way, wanting the same things, causing the same problems whilst trying to smear anyone opposed to that as an equivalent to the 20th Century Boogyman is a bit on the nose.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Paradoxically, rejoining the EU, the exiting of which the SNP and PC have said was instrumental in their drive for independence, will give them another angle. We’re back in the EU so we may as well be an independent state within it and benefit from more wealthier countries contributions (typical of both those parties). As for the riots, these are going on all over Europe now. Italy and Albania are seeing unrest but I don’t think the cause if the riots are the same. The French riots seem to be dominated by lefty extremists with Free Palestine agendas and immigrants whereas Tirana riots are more about domestic issues. We are going to see a lot of rioting just for the sake of it I think.

"... hand over the running of the UK to someone else, someone who thinks and acts like them whilst never facing the actual risks of an election." It is that more than anything else that made me vote leave. There is a trend across many developed societies for law and legal regulation to move into the domains of politics, and even welfare. This can be called juridification, judicial activism, lawfare, or "deep law" among other things. The key point is that it puts many areas of public policy and welfare beyond the reach of national electorates. However people vote in two-party FPP or PR systems, they cannot influence the direction of change. Instruments such as the EU Acquis Communautaire, the ECHR and the UN Refugee Convention limit what we can do to maintain our way of life. The way things are going the UK and Europe more generally will bear liitle resemblance to what they were like in the 1960s. I think Labour began to see the attraction of binding international treaties (the "rule-based international order") during the period under Kinnock and Smith when they saw little prospect of an electoral majority, but all parties have been culpable.
