About time he was dropped now, we were better without him. Ronald, lissah, Welsh, Tymon going forward until key gets back. Burgess would have scored both his chances Saturday and he also cost us the goal.
Ouch! I don’t think he played that badly to be dropped but I understand what you are saying to a certain point. There is always an error in him for sure and though I thought it was Ronald playing them onside for their goal on Saturday, RichardO pointed out it may have been him and then compounded the initial error.
If he was dropped then I’d play Seelt instead of Lissah at CB leaving him at RB. Eustaquio could take over the captaincy.
Unless he drops himself though, it’s just not going to happen.
And Burgess may or may not have scored with those chances, we’ll never know but what I can be more certain about is that he would have presented WH with more clear cut chances as a result of the sloppiness we saw week in week out last season.
When everyone is back fully fit and firing then yes, for me he'd be third choice as it stands behind Welsh and Lissah, but other than Southampton away (where nobody played well) he's been hitting his usual standards all season.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
Yep, as tbe doc has said, there always has to be a scapegoat.
It wasnt bens fault for the goal, west ham showed how to capitalise on a mistake.
There was absolutely nothing anyone could do about the goal.
And re the chances he missed, ateotd he is a centre half, it isnt his job to score goals.
I’d like some clarification on the goal. It wasn’t clear from the TV whether he was offside or not but there was little complaint from our players when it was given. Who was it playing him onside? TV comms said Ronald but it’s been mentioned on here it was Cabango. Did anyone have a perfect side on view of it?

From this Cabango stop it at 8 secs After that the rest panic to the ball

Seen the goal, he looked offside by quite a bit, the defenders went mad with the linesman.
Earlier in the season, when Key was available, I was torn on whether our best back four included him.
Now with Eustaquio always making himself available, I think two ball players in the back four is enough and I wouldn’t sacrifice Cabangos physicality. I’d probably leave Key out, as harsh as that is.
His mistakes get magnified, but he’s thrown his body on the line and prevented near certain goals a few times already this season.
He is clearly lacking in thought here for the goal. Playing both West Ham players onside.
That still shows hes on but when you watch it in movement it looked like he was offside, he was coming back from and offside position, whereas cabango was running towards our goal.
That still doesnt show exactly when the ball left the foot, id say cabango was a yard off the goal line and the west ham player a yard closer to the goal line.

To be fair to Cabango he had a decision to make after keeping the player onside does he go towards the player on the edge of the box or cover the player coming in behind him, by the time the ball came in Ronald had covered the man at the back post but if the cross came in early into the six yard box would the man on the back post have been covered?
For me there were chances and space for the midfielders to turn with the ball to get us attacking quicker but that often needs good awareness of players around you, options around you or good communication from players around you to let you know you can turn with the ball to ensure the right option is pick, the man playing the ball forward into the centre often being the best player to advised the player receiving the ball. We moved a number of their forward player about but didn't unlock the midfield path through them and got a little too confident in our play and got caught.
As for Cabango it is about having the best available back four to do a job against different teams. Would you want to see Ronald as rightback permenantly not really happy to have Cabango in the middle to offer the height that Welsh can't add, having Lissah at right back in the team also adds the height meaning you don't have to play both Fulton and Stamenic at the same time. Lots of setups to be dealt with because of injuries and suspension and other teams strength, for the most part Matos has done well to pick defensively strong teams to counter the threats of other teams.
As proved in the last couple of days homegrown players have a massive impact on team selection. Not having Lissah in the squad meant that we had to include homegrown youngsters on the bench and meant we couldn't include Stewart in the squad. Burgess, Cabango, Tymon, Lissah and Key are homegrown, Welsh and Ronald are not. As you move forward neither of Fulton, Stamenic are homegrown, in fact only Idah of Saturdays outfield 11 is homegrown. Back to the original post of the back four suggested only Lissah and Tymon would be homegrown. Its not necessarily picking the best defence it's about picking the best squad for any particular match within the rules.

It's just a one-off poor game. At fault for the only goal of the game and missed two glorious chances. It probably won't happen again this season. Not sure which is worse, wanting him dropped for one bad game or the others pretending he played well. Either way, he starts next Saturday.

I blame Stameniċ if there is a scapeygoaty.
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.
Yes, turning blind in the final third, lost the ball when the defence was spread.
There were 3 players boxing him in because he took too long on the ball , some of our play was so slow it invited pressure Stamenic wasn’t the only one to get caught either for the same reason
