When I look to a captain I like to see a a strong, charismatic, dynamic leader, organising and driving the team on especially when they're under the cosh, hopefully leading by example as they're a tidy player as well.
I look at Grimes and see what appears to be a chinless, weak, lifeless individual who once in a blue moon makes the odd decent pass or challenge whilst sporting a silly under chin beard sort of thing.
I stand to be corrected but the thought that he is capable of leading by example, inspiring or driving the team on during difficult times seems pretty far fetched to me.
I don't blame him at all, but if he's the best we can come up with as a captain then its a further demonstration of just how weak the squad is in general. [Post edited 12 Feb 2020 10:16]

Grimes played in four positions last season and didn't command one - was the a factor in his performances ... or was a one season wonder?
Whatever the reason, he's been very poor all season and doesn't merit an automatic starting place.
TBH, other than being a body somewhere in midfield, I can't work out what his 'job' is in the team. |  |

He's the enforcer people always say we're in need of. Dominated the tackling stats again last night. People were excited about the energy and fight Gallagher would supposedly bring but Grimes completely outshines him in those areas. Doesn't look tough enough or shout loud enough for some, though. Appearances seem to matter.

Rhimes is taking flak, but it's not all down to him, effectively there should be 11 captains on the field at any given time.
Grimes needs a steady experienced player along side him, he hasn't been playing awesome but he's done ok considering g the immense pressure on him.
He was probably a poor choice for captain, but it's not his fault he was given it, if he'd have turned it down all hell would've broken loose with the fan base, he cant really win, it's clear to see Ayew is the voice on the pitch anyway.
It's frustrating but I think our problems stem from an inept manager not an inept player, let's remember he was fantastic last season. |  | | |

He was good last night, best footballer we have. He has too much to do and is struggling. The problem is the big gaping hole we have in midfield, which is not Grimes's fault.
We have loads of good players but we're missing at least one key player, and that is holding midfield. |  |
