Wasn't it the Rhyddings that got hammered by Sky for showing games without a (proper?) licence?

There's not many of those I hadn't been in at some time, some of them very regularly. Maybe that aspect of our social life is dying out but it was a massive part of life for many of us on here. We ran clubs and sports teams from our local pubs, we spent time with friends and family, we had fun and sometimes, during hard times we could guarantee finding a friend there to share a beer and the hard time with.

It was our social media before mobile phones and the internet.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

True that. Pop round the corner for a quick pint any time of the week and you'd pretty much guarantee there'd be someone there for a chat. More people saving it up for a weekend bender in town now.

I agree it killed the Kingsway, it did used to be a great night out. The other areas though, there's a lot that's contributed to pubs closing down including greedy breweries.

A mate of mine had a pub, when he told his area manager he was struggling their answer was to increase his rent and beer prices, unsurprisingly it wasn't long til the pub closed.

I also think the jobs market re underemployment has something to do with it. People will save their money for a weekend binge and not use their locals like us oldeies used to. I was in my local pubs 4/5/6 times a week but back then a pint cost around 70p depending on your choice. It's over £3 per pint for a drap beer these days and when unit pricing comes in things will get even worse for pubs I reckon,

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

The Mountain Dew was a great place.
Watching the swans in ceefax, microwaved pasties, and an old wonky-eyed bloke who used to look at you if you didn't have a drink saying "where's your pints then boys?"

The Red Lion hasn't helped Morriston either, me and the Mrs popped in the other day, two meals and two pints for less than £20, difficult for other pubs to compete with Weatherspoons

The Adam & Eve a regular drinking hole for the Pencoed Jacks ....

Also full of the meanest mob I have seen in Swansea when we played Boro in the FA cup, for some reason we didn't go in that day.

Memories.

Yes it was. From memory the landlord believed that blocking out the Premier league logo would make it legal, without realising that the broadcast of the actual game had become illegal. He challenged it in the courts and was smashed for costs when he lost his case. That's probably not spot on but not far from it.

When I drove past 3 weeks ago I swear the Rhyddings was open.
The demise of club rugby hasn't helped. It used to be packed in the 80's and 90's when the likes of Neath, Llanelli came to St.Helen's

Morriston was dying on its arse long before Wind St kicked off. Too many smack rats happy to glass people for looking at them funny.

It's not a coincidence that the Red Lion banned nearly 40 people in the first week after it reopened as a Spoons.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

He already had £65K costs against him before he appealed the case. The landlord Tony Luxton died a few months ago.

The Dillwyn was my church, best pub ever In Swansea, early 80's you never had strangers in there.it was a nut house, police would be outside on a fri and sat night waiting for it to kick off!! Saying that there were some right characters in there, I remember blakey as the landlord just! My dad use to take me n there when I was 14, 1/2 shandy, cig and 20p for the pool table, his view was, he knew where I was, so I wasn't out causing trouble....fair enough I guess

The landlady was Russell's sister, one xmas the swans had their xmas p*s up in there, I was dumbstruck!! my mum offered to take them all home and make them tea!!

Happy days indeed, so many stories of the place

The hair and the beard have gone I am now conforming to society, tis a sad day The b*stards are coming back though

I called in there for a beer before driving home after one evening game. Had never been in there before (preferred the Plough at the bottom when younger) and bloody hell....just about the most unwelcoming place I've ever been in, and I've been to Taunton. It was like the night of the living dead. "Here's your f*cking pint" said the Ann Widdecombe lookalike zombie behind the bar, "hurry up and drink it and f*ck off".

Ok she might not have said that, exactly.
