He’s posturing mate, forced himself in to a corner by spouting off on Twitter. Had no choice. Great footballer, even half decent presenter although that took years. Thick as mince when it comes to foresight and understanding the result of cause and effect.

He had no choice? Why? What would have happened to him if he hadn't taken a refugee under his roof?

How on earth would he have looked a complete prick? Are you one of those people who say you can't show compassion for refugees or the homeless unless you have one living in your house? I hope not because that's a completely moronic argument.

Exactly, and you can bet this 1 immigrant will be vetted to the extreme and I doubt it will be a case of him in the next bedroom and waiting for each other to use the bathroom. The MP had him by the bolloxs and he was forced into it. OUT AFLI

My point was he made such a fuss about it, and so many had a go at him his popularity was going to go either way. With people like him being all about people like him, he’s had no choice.

Because he did a lot of posturing on the subject, spent a lot of time telling the rest of us how we should be doing things. You shouldn't go around preaching to other people unless you're prepared to practise what you preach. He was challenged to take a refugee in and fair do's he did. If he hadn't the MP who challenged him would no doubt have been calling him out as a hypocrite. I have plenty of compassion for genuine refugees but I don't go telling others how to behave. I prefer to preach to the government about stopping interfering in other countries (illegal wars), about making sure foreign aid is spent where it's needed and not given to countries with bigger armd forces than us with nuclear and space programs or pocketed by corrupt officials and if we can't do that then stop it.

I wasn't aware an MP had challenged him to take a refugee in and frankly I think that's pathetic. Does anyone on this forum care about the homeless? Imagine I told everyone who does that they must have one in their spare bedroom and if they haven't then they're hypocrites. I'd get plenty of shit if I did and quite rightly. It's an utterly pathetic argument. In what way does Lineker preach to people about the homeless? Genuine question.
| Gary Lineker on 19:15 - Sep 3 with 1157 views | Wingstandwood | The guy well and truly put his money where his mouth is! Action speaks louder than words and keyboard warrior nothingness . That should be congratulated because he has shown that it is indeed far better to be a charitable doer/giver and bona fide 'real-deal,' than it ever is being a 'zero-end-product' forever offended virtue signaler. | |

Oh I thought it was going to be a permanent thing. Bit off subject, I've always been disappointed the way churches never utilise their space to help the homeless. There is a superb group of Methodist volunteers in Swansea, far better than some of the 'professional-Christian' set-ups. I came across one once, what with it's minister, youth worker and mission worker employees carving out a combined wage close to one hundred grand a year (with pension payments) for doing approx 2-4 hours a week. What a waste of money that should be better spent on helping the homeless. There is a guy out in America i.e. Ole Anthony who detests these 'professional' types who never practice what they preach.

Good point, well made. Lineker seems to have the right set of morals and values to do the right thing. Refugee for life though may be pushing it. Apparently he's struggling to sustain meaningful, long term relationships with his girlfriends, so may not augur well for the refugee.

They aren't pets, they are human beings. I'd imagine that he will be with Jugs until they get the unfortunate person a place of their own.

Do you think they will be sharing the same sh!tter? But we all know once his “useful vetted immigrant” has served his purpose Lineker will have him removed very quickly.,can’t see him being their sitting around the tree with big ears opening Christmas presents, would have served his purpose by then and told to FO sharpish. Maybe the dyke or leftie celebrities could take him in for a week then pass him around so they can all show fake concern and get Woke points and have their photos taken for the guardian with him. Is it relevant whether a forum drifts left, right, up or down ? Folk should be allowed to comment freely in whichever direction they choose (without fiery abuse, from Fieryfolk) There's a Wales football game tonight, I'm sure football fans will be enjoying the spectacle.

Yes it is a bit shite if a forum drifts one way or another, as they become an echo chamber of one view. That makes for a piss poor forum.
