| No celebrations 22:32 - Jan 7 with 2815 views | Catullus | With the number of cases rising fast in elite football players are being told not to celebrate the goals with the huddles and cuddles. I haven't understood why they were allowed to anyway? More games are off this weekend, Derby are going to field a full team of U23 and U18's because the whole first team squad are isolating. If the footballers want football stopped again they are going the right way about it. | |

Yeah, stop the football = reducing risks They are footballers, you score a goal, your natural instinct is to celebrate. Do you think tight marking should be banned from set pieces?

Do you follow your natural instincts when out shopping etc? Or do you still go shopping but minimise the risks? Maybe you should just stop going shopping because it = reducing the risks.

Ridiculous comparison. Shopping is needed to get supplies, to feed yourself and your family, a game of football isn't. Do you think touch tight marking should be banned? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It’s not only the players, you have an entourage of around 35 or more when the Swans play away including medical staff, coaches, kit men etc And at home it’s lots more.

Agreed, if you start telling players not to do things they are used to doing, then knock it on the head. If football can't be played normally then don't play it at all, scoring a worldy and then doing a socially distanced high 5 with your teammate, seconds after being man handled by the opposition centre half

We are all having to do things we are not used to doing. Stopping huddles and cuddles is hardly the end of the world. If you'd rather everything stopped and we all had to lock ourselves indoors for weeks then you carry on. The rest of us want to carry on as normally as possible within the rules. Will it improve our lives to stop all sports? Or will it just give people another thing to moan about? If stopping celebrations doesn't help lower infection rates then they will no doubt stop all sports soon.

Dear god Have you ever played football ? Scored an important goal? Or been involved in an important goal. You cannot just turn off a switch, it’s an emotion, an automatic reaction, it’s hysteria and uncontrollable. It’s not to be ruined and governed by rules. Just knock it all on the head until vaccines completed

We are in a time when we face mass deaths due to a virus that is spread by touch and close contact. YET, to disagree unnecessary cuddling at a football game provoke not only indignation but personal attack .Nige, that is bad even for you. Accept Cat sees it differently. The logic here is that 1.We dont want football to close down AND 2.We don't want professional players to be advised to avoid literally crawling over each other because they score a goal;celebrate I hear you here-the goal might not even win the game. Funnily enough players even 40 years ago,did not see the need to snog each other when they found the back of the net and covid was unheard of then. The great Jimmy Greaves said he couldnt understand why players celebrated just for scoring a goal and this from one of the greatest ever goal scorers who would score 40 goals+ if playing today. What I have read on the subject is beyond pitiful and really does shows how badly we are faring in tackling this curse. Meanwhile, more players are catching covid.

Any team in the world who were losing by 2 goals and then score with ten minutes to go, just get on with it, with celebrating is the last thing on their mind. Very easy to enforce - should be brought in immediately. I pay to watch a ball be kicked around - not two minutes of players unnecessarily hugging each other.

It's also the picture being beamed out on TV that it's ok to hug people.. The medical advice is not to, but of course football classes itself above the general public.

Marking up at corners etc, an integral part of the game - Absolutely required. Pointless comparison. Basic risk management, remove all unnecessary risks and hazards = safer environment for all.

Nonsense. If players can come up with elaborate goal celebrations, I'm sure they can do socially distanced ones as well. They can even show them on the gimpy football tv shows for the fanboys to have a tug over.
