10 years ago, we found ourselves in a similar position.
We finished 3rd in the league on 80 points, 4 points behind Norwich. We then obviously beat Forest in that epic two leg semi and won the equally epic final against Reading who finished 5th that year after beating Cardiff in their semi.
We find ourselves now on 75 points with 4 games left. We should surpass our 2011 total and should record our highest points tally in a single Championship season.
So looking at the class of 2011 vs the class of 2021, how do we compare.
Scott Sinclair, Fabio Borini, Nathan Dyer, Leon Britton, Angel Rangel, Joe Allen, Ashley Williams are some formidable names who were all approaching their best years.
Make your combined starting 11 in whatever formation you prefer (the 2011 lot for the purpose of this task are all frozen in their 2011 states).
I will go with the following:-

Rangel –––Williams–Guehi–--Bidwell
Dyer–––Allen–––Britton–––Sinclair

Guehi, Bidwell and Ayew the only ones to make the starting cut for me. Woodman nearly. Although I very nearly chose Neil Taylor because Bidwell is far more suited to the wing back role, but I will stick with him for his delivery when he gets the chance (obviously Ben Davies was still not on the lips of anyone at that time).
That 2011 team was stacked!

Bidwell aside I agree with you. That team of 10 years ago was much stronger than todays team.
It shows how much the quality has dropped in the entire division. I back the old boys to beat the current crop most times, maybe 70%. | |

Swansea could have done it the same way as 2011 with Potter. Potter played better football with weaker players McKay Celina even Baker Richardson. Potter had a market leading edge.
Cooper is using the same systems as everybody else raised in the same school and has better players than Potter with better results. Bournemouth Norwich and Watford have better players than Swansea so they have no market leading edge.
Brentford have a leading edge with Franck from the Danish school good players but no pedigree and a thin squad. |  |
