It’s no secret that Russell Martin wants the right player with the right mindset to join the swans for the rest of the season, or even on a permanent basis. 0 Click above for the latest Click below for Twitter Or scan here for Instagram https://www.instagram.com/swansea_independent?utm_source=qr

I was extremely impressed with Joseph on that wing last night, but he was bought as a striker I thought? So he can cover both positions. I can't see Whittaker getting enough minutes if we are to bring in another striker. However, I'd be happy to keep him as a sub, but will that benefit the kid? Here's what I think we need to do with our squad. We have a decent squad, with backups in almost all positions now. I think we probably need another striker and a replacement for Biddy, but apart from that, we have a solid squad with a bit of depth and plenty of versatility. Here's my team (backups in brackets): GK Benda (Hamer) CB Bennett Cooper Naughton (Cabango, Manning) LWB Bidwell *or new signing (Manning) RWB Laird (Connor Joseph) DM Grimes Downes (Williams Smith Fulton) AM Walsh (Paterson Fulton) STR Piroe *new signing (Routs, Joseph, Whittaker) THE REST Lati - Not good enough yet IMO. Needs to go out on loan, or even sell if he's on higher wage than the squad. (LOAN). Rushesha - Haven't seen him much, but we have plenty of back up at RWB. (LOAN). Dhanda - I do think he's still got potential, but I'd rather move him on and give someone younger a chance in to rival Paterson, like Oli Cooper maybe. (SELL). Oli Cooper - Haven't seen enough of him, probably needs games, but we don't have the numbers at AM, so he may get a few chances this season. If not, he needs games (LOAN). Cullen - Doesn't really fit into this system. (LOAN). Lowe - Can't see him fitting into this system. (SELL).

Looks like RM will let Dan Williams go out on loan, going by these comments. COuld be a good move, as he looks ready for first team football. However, I'd keep him and give him more games. Russell Martin: ""These guys deserve opportunities for the way they train and conduct themselves day in day out and the way they behave on and off the pitch," he said. "Dan earned an opportunity in the first round against Reading and really took it. "I thought he was probably even more impressive than he was against Reading, not just on the ball, but the job he did defensively for the team was fantastic. "He's unfortunate that we're blessed with a lot of players in that position with some real experience. "He's found opportunities limited in the league games, but when he's had an opportunity in both cup games he's really taken it. "I'm sure there'll be a lot of people who are looking at Dan as a player they'd like to add to their ranks in the next week, and it's up to us to assess what's best for Dan in the long term. Is it to go out and play some games on loan and then come back to us in a really good place or is it to stay around us and keep taking these opportunities? "We'll have to assess that, but I've been really pleased with, not only his performances, but his attitude around the place. "He's a big Swansea fan. He really cares and it's really important to have those players in there.""

Is he saying that our other players are that much better or committed than him? He needs to be assessed playing against Championship sides not just in the cups, he could be an absolute gem.

Fair points but I suspect this might come down to if Grimes stays or not, if he does stay he takes one of the two central midfield positions leaving Williams up against Smith, Walsh & Fulton. Doesn’t mean he cannot get in but it will initially be a battle & if the other 3 plus Grimes stay fit he might not even make the bench regularly vs loan and regular football. For me as long as any loan includes a January recall if needed that’s fine with me. PS whilst good win last night in general & judged across the 90 minutes it was an average performance.

Here is my thinking. a) He has been linked at different times, b) He is from Bristol City (precedent) c) He will be economically viable. d) Time is running out e) He has had productive spells here and there. I cannot imagine Roberts being benched. He's arguably the highest value player at the club. We can't afford to see his value plummet. I hope we see Laird at left back and Roberts at right back.

Yeah, you're probably right. I was posting more to show the depth of the squad and the amount of backup we have in each position. I'm sure there will be a few players there which will be put in different positions during the season by RM. I do think we have a solid squad here now. A couple more signings and we will be fine. Get the young players out on loan if they aren't going to be regulars in the side, or at least be getting on the pitch regularly from the bench.
