Has he even been asked? Some may call this paranoid but can you imaging Manning being allowed to stay on if the roles had been reversed? As for yellow for kicking the ball away - joke. Teams do it many times in a game and why would you be wasting time at 3 - nil down?

He did kick the ball away though and the rules say it's a yellow. It's a massive joke the Luton player (Cornick?) didn't see red though, it was violent conduct all day long, he could have put Manning out for weeks. Maybe that was his intention? Ebven that fella on the EFL show said he thought it was intentional, that the Luton player was looking at Manning, not the ball and had plenty of time to pull out if he wanted. The FA won't do anything now though, because he's already been punished. At least I think that's how it works? Football needs a citing system like the rugby except, in y opinion, if a player gets booked he can still be cited if the punishment isn't suitable as yesterdays yellow wasn't. In the same vein, if a player gets a yellow he should be able to appeal it. Isn't it another farce that you can appeal a red card but not a yellow?

Yes absolutely we did some good things too and the subs were spot on and can’t be argued with (as I mentioned at the time). But to pretend it was all us and nothing to do with their level dropping would be skirting over reality.

Jones has categorically said that he did not tell anyone to stop pressing or drop their effort. It was not the plan. They were simply too tired to continue to press us as they did in the first half. Make of that what you will. Maybe it was just that we were fitter. Maybe our team selection gave us some good players to come on with less fatigue. Maybe our passing system wears teams out more than us. Maybe we just cope with 3 games a week better than Luton. Maybe it's something else?

Of course it wasn’t the plan, it’s natural. Same in the Reading play off final, we went in 3-0 at half time and backed off in the second half. I’m sure not even Reading would say it was all them as to how they got back into it, we visibly backed off to defend what we had. They played a huge pressing game in the first half, that takes huge amounts of energy. If anyone has had done the drill where you are in the middle of a circle of players and have to intercept the ball, they will know what closing down and the press does to you. The subs were important, we went more direct which was also important. But so was the fact they clearly backed off.

Getting fatigued is very different to "backing off". Backing off is intentional. Fatigue is not. I don't think they backed off at all. I don't think we went direct either.

It isn’t. If a boxer is tired they back off and go into survival mode. You cannot continue to press when you are tired so you back off. It’s natural, they aren’t robots. We definitely went direct. They definitely backed off

We were clearly more direct:- Long balls:- vs Preston:- 46 vs Hull:- 29 vs Millwall:- 49 …………………………… vs Luton:- 65 I would bet anything the majority of which came in the second half. If anyone has the details feel free to put forward. The other game this season we clearly went direct in, is our only league win of the season. vs Bristol City:- 66 Coincidence eh? | Nathan Jones gives his opinion on why Luton threw away a home win against Swanse on 16:16 - Sep 19 with 1199 views | DwightYorkeSuperstar | It was the sort of capitulation by a manager that likely seriously harms their reputation and puts off potential suitors. They came out in the second half playing as if they were protecting a 1 goal lead in the 94th minute. It was baffling.

Equally baffling is those pretending that isn’t the case. Although shouldn’t be surprised.

| Nathan Jones gives his opinion on why Luton threw away a home win against Swanse on 16:36 - Sep 19 with 1173 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Martin s model is to play out from the back. This notionally gives the other team cheap opportunities with the high press. It does however involve a risk of burn out and energy depletion. This can be mitigated with substitutions. Over 46 games this is going to be a real slog. The so called "backing off" was both fatigue related and players making their own decisions to protect their own performance levels and reputations. Jones stated his team were the best in the league at pressing. The game was therefore a big challenge for the Swansea defence. Naughton and Williams in particular struggled. Naughton was out of his specialist position and Williams is learning like Guehi had to. Nathan Jones struggled at Stoke getting lumbering veteran s like Vokes, Miram Diouf and Banik Afobe to play high press. There is an argument Pioe and Ntcham performed very well as they were able to pick off Luton's tired retreating defencers. This argument goes against the simplistic idea that the manager "made a mistake". This argument is that the draw was achieved by throwing the game plan into the bin. Quite the opposite in fact, I suggest. If Swansea had cut out the basic mistakes goals 1 and 2 it would have been easy and classy tactical stroll in the park (Pep style) especially if the Ref had done his job. Naughton for goal 2 was out muscled and then failed to leave the player to the covering defender. | |

As a team they faded , no question about it , not winning second balls , movement across the pitch became laboured , that wasn't a team under instruction by the Manager that was team which ran out of steam

Our subs along with the players on pitch looked toral quality. They were not prepared for it, neither we mostSwans fans. We looked and were a different team 2nd half. Most important thing is that we continue our 2and half approach into next league match.

I am amazed how little praise Swans team have had for that second half. It was magnificent, one of the best ever. 3-0 down and we did not lose. 3 great goals all outside the box. Some still not happy. May as well pack it in how imo.

I agree with most of that. I do not think the manager made a mistake in the first half. He said sohimself, that the half time teamtalk was to continue the same and what they've been practicing in training. There is a lot of work to be done and especially how we deal with the intial press of teams who specialise in that. If we can deal with that then these types of matches should be a lot easier than games against teams like Hull, who park the bus.

Agree. Not sure where this ''instruction from the manager'' notion came from really. Same with the Reading play off final. We backed off, its human nature, I'm sure Brendan didn't tell them to.

Backing off is an intentional change. Fatigue is not.

I'm guessing many wish to but can't be bothered with usual lack of grace emanating from a few posters who frequent this fine forum.

Again, no it isn't. Backing off is protecting what you have, be that due to energy depletion or a natural propensity to defend what you have. Its prevalent in nearly all matches where someone goes in with a lead. Have you never heard of the notion ''2-0 is a dangerous scoreline''... well that is the reason, not because they think the manager will tell everyone at 2-0 to back. It's your incorrect understanding of the situation and the point made. They backed off (nobody is claiming manager told them to) for a variety of reasons, we went more direct as I showed you and corrected the line up errors. It worked.
