The government should be doing something to help increase the nmber of drivers first. Some kind of fast track scheme a cooperation with businesses so there are guaranteed jobs for those who pass the tests. maybe offer a loan that's repaid on very friendly terms to pay for the lessons. There has to be a way to get this sorted without doing one of the very things many people thought Brexit would deliver. Besides, if I was a Polish driver and I could get a visa to come and work here and it was just a 12 month gig while British drivers trained, why would I? What if I had a job already, would I give it up for such a short term offer? It'd have to be worth the foreign drivers time and that's going to mean long term visas or surely most would tell Bojo to eff off?

Yes need to make training and tests quicker. Over 45,000 drivers were not trained or tested over the 18 months of the Pandemic. Not helped by the samples at the DVLA where half the staff were sitting at home instead of processing HGV licences renewals particularly the over 60s who need to be renewed each year. Europe wide shortage of HGV drivers France, Poland and Germany all short of drivers. Not sure how many will take advantage of the visa scheme unless they are paid decent wages. Also not helped by muppet drivers trying to get an extra 10 litres of fuel in their tanks.

Of course you can panic buy petrol most drivers don't drive around with nearly full tanks. Most drivers either fill up once a week the same time they do their weekly supermarket shop or when they are down to about a third of a full tank. At the moment like sheep they are joining petrol queues when they don't need petrol just to pour an extra 2 or 3 gallons in their tanks. THAT IS PANIC BUYING. Most petrol stations have a week's supply in their storage tanks except maybe for the high volume supermarket sites which have supplies delivered twice a week. Any shortage will be caused by panic buying.

You can only store petrol in a full tank. When full if you top up 3 gallons every couple of days that's the same as buying 20 gallons a fortnight. Things will settle down after a couple of weeks when the idiots wake up. Gas supply and the impasse on Nord Stream 2 is a more concerning issue particularly if November and December are cold in mainland Europe, that's a real supply issue [Post edited 25 Sep 2021 10:51]

I've no time for Boris and Co and absolutely shudder at what those fools in the Labour Party have done and continue to do to Wales. I genuinely feel sorry for people such as yourself and all the angst and despair that you appear to suffer on a daily basis whilst fervently hoping that you can once again be ruled over by yet another layer of incompetent politicians both elected and non elected in the fantasy gravy train called Brussels. Just get over it accept that you're in a minority in democratic terms in this country and stop your pitiful embarrassing whining.

It amazes me that the rewhinging whiners like Jimbo never seem to consider how the rest of the countries in the world, many with much higher standards of living than in the UK manage to limp along outside the EU. It's because they do their own thing without handing over £billions of their citizens money every year to an organisation ruled over by unelected fools barely able to believe their luck in regards to the vast financial bonanza that their personal finances have found themselves in. Do you really want to fast track people to become HGV drivers These foreign drivers are a danger to, going through traffic lights on amber and red, last time I drove up to my lads there was a foreign HGV lorry in the outside lane, absolutely shocking.

Good point. Many of them are lethal Look at the carnage on motorways and often it involves foreign drivers. I d rather train our own people,as I would with NHS staff. Problem is we dont like hard work
