He rejected a 3 year deal at Fulham when in the Premier league. Only 21. Not a died in the wool league 1 battler this lad. A premier leagues prospect who took a step down for game time it appears. 6ft 2 inch midfielder

Russell Martin's judgement saw him ostracise Joel Piroe from the rest of the squad before realising his mistake. How can you trust his judgement?

What just on one game are you controversial just for the sake of it?

If he was fantastic or just highly rated he would be snapped up by clubs with far bigger clout. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I do not believe I am controversial. Usually my opinions become the norm over time. What I am, often, is early.

Your trust in RM comment shows your comments need to be taken with a pinch of salt, his comments are more realistic.

Again, I disagree. Do you think that after a few weeks, Russell Martin knew the strengths, weaknesses and other traits of every first team Swansea City player better than a level headed season ticket holder who has watched every minute of competitive football played by these players in a Swansea shirt? Russell Martin more than likely has a better understanding of the game due to the work undertaken to attain his coaching badges - sure. He'll probably "know" the players better than us supporters once he has had ample time to watch them. That does not equate to knowing the players much much better than every supporter within his first few days or weeks here. Sir Alex Ferguson could come out of retirement tomorrow to take the managerial position at Scunthorpe. I'd bet much of the Scunthorpe supporters would know the players much much better than Sir Alex Ferguson, at least for a few weeks/months. I don't particularly care if Liam Cullen has a better attitude in training than Joel Piroe. As long as he is fit, Joel Piroe should start every match ahead of Liam Cullen. Do not sacrifice points on the pitch because you lack the skills to adequately discipline a player off the pitch.

Cullen i obviously a nice lad and one who does as he is told without questioning. We need feisty ,awkward hard to handle players if they can play. Martin is clearly no man manager.

With this type of thinking Swansea may as well give up as Swansea will never sign a highly rated player. The thinking suggests. "he cannot be any good because he has signed for Swansea". On the other hand Swansea do best with "slow burner players. Alan Curtis was one of those. He improved year on year and so was not whisked away early. I hope Garrick Whittaker and Obafemi are like this. They just need a little bit more time and coaching development to get to the level of their team mates. Garrick seems to be getting better year on year. Some players kick on after 24. [Post edited 31 Dec 2021 19:54]

I do not lie commenting on Cullen's potential. He made a spectacular arrival with that FA cup game against Forest but has not kicked on. He needs a run of games somewhere. I have questioned his hardness and determination to get on the end of crosses but this is based on limited game time. He has a good free kick.

And mostly wrong. Piroe had a bad attitude, that's why he wasn't played, when he knuckled down he git his chance. You can tell you know nothing about team sports. Do yourself a favour and set yourself a new year's resolution, try and be like most of us and get a life.

Well you arent a season ticket holder and more importantly you don't go at all.

Whatever happens in training, if a player never delivers in the first team, should he still be picked? How many chances should be given?

| Matt O'Riley on 13:01 - Jan 1 with 1608 views | jasper_T | When Graham Potter came in one of the things he said repeatedly in his press conferences was that he would make mistakes. He was still learning and it would take time. Russell Martin is far less proven and experienced than Potter was then. It's one thing to have hope and/or faith in a manager, but to act like they're infallible or should be immune to criticism from mere fans (or simply fans a poster doesn't like) is ridiculous. | | | |
