| Martin's "Smash and Grab" comment 19:52 - Feb 2 with 2533 views | magicdaps10 | Just read it 🤣🤣 Couldn't have put the previous 2 seasons better myself. Martin has made a stick for himself here but I must admit that I couldn't disagree with his quote. I heard a comment last night... If we finished 21st this season then we have achieved the same as we did losing to Brentford in the play off final, starting the following season in the Championship. Back to that Martin quote, obviously a dig at Cooper!? | |

| Martin's "Smash and Grab" comment on 20:28 - Feb 2 with 1657 views | magicdaps10 | Think he was just stating not to expect instant success and he is doing a job trying to build a foundation first. I understand where he is coming from but it's a brave statement taking into consideration last night's result and our league position. I think he was just saying what a lot of fans could see last season, he's said it now and he has without doubt created a little more pressure on himself for doing so. | |

| Martin's "Smash and Grab" comment on 20:30 - Feb 2 with 1655 views | bonymine | I saw him yesterday at the lunchtime U23 game v Millwall at Landore, Mark Allen was there too, he certainly looked more than a bit deflated given the previous days transfer (non)dealings and we then seemed to take that ‘mood’ into the game last night perhaps ? We’ve got a tough run of games on the horizon now & despite the frustrations and apparent disquiet from within I for one will most certainly do my utmost to get behind the team and encourage rather than criticise. In times of adversity we, the fans, need to stick together and get behind the team and the Manager, we’ve had more than our fair share of managerial upheaval over recent years, let’s at least get through to the Summer and take stock then eh ….. making a change now makes no sense whatsoever from a playing, managerial or financial perspective the squad is the squad just accept it and get behind the boys FFS !! More to come from from Monday, without a doubt, I couldn't believe the way we started last night, I thought the team would have been deflated, but fair play. | |

Tomorrow's round up could be interesting when he does his presser. From what I gather, he is more concerned about the lack of numbers.

There are only 20 games left. Logically in these circumstance the size of the squad in February a does not need to match the size of the squad in September. Longman is a £500k footballer in midfield. Swansea have got plenty of them. Fulton and Dhanda hardly used and refusing to go. Cooper liked them both and got the US guys to give Fulton a long contract on big dough. No one else will go near that wage. Its the market. Clubs are paying players too much and these clubs only want sales out and loans in. Allen and Winter know the brief. The 'young player talent pathway'. Young players will get their chance. In house players only Cabango is getting his chance. Joseph is club signing and getting bits and bobs only. Whittaker, Cullen , Brandon Cooper, Dan Williams, Benda all failed their Summer auditions and have gone on loan to come back as more rounded footballers.

I don't see the point in lining these players up if there is no real intention to buy. And what was the point of Silverstein coming over. Was obvious Fulton was staying put from mid January so money in was low. My guess is big the window up and sell extra season tickets, pretty poor from the club though. Wolf was expensive would have preferred a permanent signing even if it was from a lower league. Fans don't like being conned and we were led up the garden path as was Martin. Swansea wanted bargains and big bargains. Christie saw big cuts in his wages as did Wolf. Fisher was secured and efforts to sign big talents from Man city failed at the instruction of Pep Guadiola no less. Man Utd decided it was their role to 'pick winners' and took Liard form Swansea and gave him to Bournemouth weakening Swansea and helping Bournemouth. Its a tough business and not very fair, Longman and OReilly were not really needed with Dhanda and Fulton hardly playing and refusing to move on. Silverstein even offered a nice little number for Dhanda to play in the USA but he declined. Swansea paying Dhanda's pay differential would have run into problems with fans as you can imagine. The Chief would be apoplectic. Levien was told Fulton was a great player and worth every penny of his wages. He discovered no one would go anywhere near what Swansea are paying him. Potter told them Ryan Woods for £7m would be worth millions more in the future. No he went on a free. Silverstein came to smell the coffee and has not been convinced it is the best grade. | Martin's "Smash and Grab" comment on 00:32 - Feb 3 with 1310 views | Dr_Parnassus | Do you get £20m for finishing 20th then? What a ridiculous comment. That’s like saying getting to the Final of the Champions league is like never competing in it.

| Martin's "Smash and Grab" comment on 00:34 - Feb 3 with 1308 views | Dr_Parnassus | It’s funny how the narrative shifts. In January last season it was Coopers fault he didn’t get the players he wanted. This season it’s not the managers fault for not getting the players he wanted. Yet both instances were largely the same. | |

It was a poor window for sure, but he can’t be that mad. The board have spent around £5.5m this year on transfers and sanctioned elite loans like Wolf and Williams as well as bring in free transfers like Pato and Ntcham. He has to make it work now. Nearly every position on the field will now be filled by a player brought in this season. Fisher Christie Burns Ogbeta Downes Ntcham Pato (when he returns) Wolf Piroe Obafemi Add in Grimes who is a player he clearly rates highly and the only thing missing that he hasn’t brought in is some CB’s to partner Burns. But he’s already had Williams from Liverpool and didn’t play him. Has Cabango, Bennett and Naughton at his disposal. Not sure what else he was expecting really.

Who would Longman have replaced in midfield? Grimes the club captain? Downes the million pound summer signing? Wolf the marquee loan signing? Ntcham, high earner who has played 100+ games for Celtic and last season was a £5M player?

It's astonishing what has gone on. They told Martin what was available and he, Winter and Allen went out and done the deals within that budget only to be told no. I notice some posting about Cooper being in the same boat last January, talk was that Cooper was looking at strikers around 4/5M and was told from the off what was available to him and he was in fantasy island stuff! Not sure if you heard that Martin even told the board that the players he inherited were like robots and had all the basic skills rammed out of them, backed by Winter in those comments aswell.

That would confirm my comments above, blaming successful managers for his lack of success and taking credit for other successful managers. He’s essentially had a new starting 11 since he’s taken over. He needs to stop his excuses which he seems to have been trotting out for 3 seasons on the bounce now.

Martin needs to knuckle down and figure out a way to win some football matches. Cheap shots at Cooper are pointless and make him look stupid. Cooperball was not a nice watch but he could win games. Time to stop talking and start delivering for Martin.

How can you get basic skills "rammed out of you", by this I presume you are talking about passing? AS I do not see what esle you can be referring to? This nonsense has to stop its absurd! I get it many didnt like Cooper, but his results for us and now Forest demonstrate he must have something as a coach/manager not forgetting his success with the England U17s But how a professional footballer gets the basic skills "rammed out " of them I cannot buy into that...Players either have the ability to pass or they dont.. I will tell what I see a manager who is good at talking, I dont see where he has demosntrated he is a "good" manager let alone a "great " manager I am not adovocating his scaking I just dont get the way he is being talked about as "great" manager in the making and the pedestal he seemed to be put on when he arrived. He is a "rookie" manager but is now in his third season as one we have had other rookie managers who delivered back to back promotions ( Tosh in his first 3 seasons) and Martinez who delivered a promotion and in his third season got us to 8th in the Championship after less than 1 and a half seasons managing in Div 1 a similar pedigree to that of Martin wouldnt you say Maybe the owners have refllected they have already spent circa £5M this season and what have they to show for it? Whereas last season for a lot less spend they recouped £20M form us reaching the play off final I hope Martin starts to learn I am still unconvinced...amazing he is taking the credit for MKDons current success and whilst I recognise he has played a part when you read the MKDons forums the fans talk of a new way of playing more attakcing than they saw under Russ...

Basic skills in football are passing, control and movement. I said that Martins statement is a big one but ultimately its true but he as I say needs to step up after saying what he did. All managers Wether a rookie manager or not had a job on their hands whomever took the job. Its a big job here not helped by what happened in the smash or grab seasons previous, we need to build it back up and we are hitting as expected some difficult dips in the road, some will moan others will stay calm and patient.

| Martin's "Smash and Grab" comment on 08:40 - Feb 3 with 1084 views | Catullus | You know what, I reckon the owners are making promises they aren't keeping so now Martin has choices, he can walk away (but he won't) he can keep going as he is or he can accept that this way isn't working and look for a different path, a hybrid maybe of being possession based without it seeming to be the be all and end all; accept that at times we will clear the ball to row Q or try long balls, that we will try the 50/50 passes forward, if only in the final third and we will do it more often and more quickly. The choice is his but what will he do? | |

Those robots won back to back play off finishes improving year on year. Since then he has had a brand new team and spent millions and chosen to keep the robots such as Naughton and Grimes. He can’t blame anyone else other than himself, the set up and his style for our results.
