Covids gone quiet hasn't it. 01:18 - Mar 14 with 3721 viewsJack123

Will it ever rear it's ugly head again? I think if it does, there is zero chance of anyone conforming the way we did again.

Just my opinion, but I really think we have been robbed of 2 years of our lives.. We won't get that back.

It hasn’t gone quiet, but there’s a war on in Europe too.

If the current figures and substantial rise were reported on, then this ridiculous idea it’s not
Longer a problem would not persist. But the news cycle is bored of Covid and there is a war.

It’s quiet elsewhere other than Europe too. Went out to lunch today, no mask, no vaccination proof, no social distancing.

Like it never happened.

Not sure what that means.

I’m stating a fact that it’s like it never happened here.

If you don’t like that… well tough I guess, it’s just the way it is.

Hospital near us as had to change one of its non covid wards back to a covid ward to cope with the increase in covid admissions. It may have gone quiet, but it’s certainly not gone away.

I presume that's Morriston, as they have had to do that too. It's certainly not gone away, cases are on the rise again

No it’s Glangwili - so with Morriston in the same boat it shows the increase isn’t just limited to one area and is wider.

Why would anyone expect it to go away.
It has a reservoir of 40 million people who's vaccination immunity to infection is fading to zero plus a few million unvaccinated people.
Plus there are new strains still appearing, Hong Kong in particular is being hard hit this time around
The only likely thing to stop it here is Summer sunshine, but even that is doubtful judging by all those countries that have masses of sunshine most of the year around.

Indeed. You’ve highlighted some really good reasons why I think the governments devision to axe the testing regime is unwise. Yes we’re saving money, but it could be small beans in the grand scheme of things of it goes Pete Yong again which it could.

I hoping it is not likely to get really bad again, but it appears that since about July last year we have been regularly living with 25,000 to 50,000 cases a day with the Omicron wave superimposed on top over Christmas.

Absolutely the case, regardless of vaccination status, dropping testing, the requirement for self-isolation and any control measures (such as in shops and public transport) is basically head-in-the-sand time. Fortunate that Omicron was not a substantial problem in a largely immune population. I suspect protection against severe disease will hold well (given the strong memory T cell response especially if you have had a heterologous vaccination regimen) but infection protection will drop. It's a policy of 'sod you' to the vulnerable.

Approximately 50,000,000 have had two doses and 39,000,000 have had their Boosters.

A lot of the unvaccinated have caught covoid at least once or twice.

Infection survey show 98% of the population now have antibodies.

Which is because 9 out of 10 people are vaccinated.
but it does show that the immunity endowed by the vacines has now gone for the majority and that you are now more likely to get COVID if you were vaccinated than if you weren't.
For protection from infection another round of Boosters is required, but based on the data the efficacy lasts less time for each round of vaccinations.

Wouldn't that be because, nearly everyone is vaccinated, and those that aren't would be young and fit.
