| Why Russell Martin has more time 12:36 - Dec 30 with 2871 views | KeithHaynes | Players coming in, another now almost there regards the January transfer window. That’s two. They won’t come if Martin is sacked. Compensation for 18 months salary, not only for him but his staff, and there’s a few. The arduous search and extra financials to get in a new managerial team. Possibly compensation again to another club. There’s still a genuine belief in his ability, especially from Jake Silverstein. Unless some drastic unexpected turnaround occurs and it’s highly unlikely he could ride out two losses over this weekend. But it will be time for questions after that. Of course he could walk, but that’s unlikely as well. | |

| Why Russell Martin has more time on 12:39 - Dec 30 with 2039 views | Dr_Parnassus | I can corroborate the Silverstein part, I’ve been told he has a man crush on Russell. He’s turned into a super fanatic over the last 12 months, almost uncomfortably so. His knowledge of football is poor though, but he’s learning quickly. Can’t knock him for his passion. | |

It’s all about away from the field of play for those who will make the decisions. Most fans concentrate on the results. If he was at Watford he would have been sacked three times by now.

Makes perfect sense Keith. The ones who have wanted Martin out from day one have trouble seeing it, even those supposedly well versed in economics ...

Any usernames who have wanted Martin out from day 1? I’ll happily go back and take a peak. I think even the great OHL was rejoicing the opportunity for the new manager when he arrived. As for economics, player sales is something that has always happened at Swansea regardless of manager. All I see is economic decline with Martin here, both in footfall, sponsorship, player registration and even the potential of relegation.

Thing is though, how do the economics look if we are fighting relegation and crowds drop a lot? What if we go down? Financial disaster? if Silverstein has great faith in his ability then he is obviously not well versed in "soccer" because boring, non winning football is something I could get them playing. Martin was brought here to have us playing entertaining football that had us challenging. Right now all the owners can see is that we are just a few points off the play offs, I doubt they have looked too hard in the other direction or worried about it.

What I am reading beggars belief and I don’t give a monkeys who thinks we re ok and not in danger . If we really are at the stage when an incompetent coach remains at our club because we can’t remove him and his staff then any talk of January sustainability is falling on barren ground . Crowds would half at least if we go down and Martin still there, still spouting what he does . Imagine having to win a game to stay up. Makes you wonder how other clubs manage to remove coaches before their contract ends

| Why Russell Martin has more time on 14:40 - Dec 30 with 1754 views | jojaca | If you look at Martinez and Rodgers for example, It didn't take 18 months to get the project going. You could see instant improvement to the team. 18 months now and we are no better than the first month. I personally think the owners are rolling the dice for the last time and try to appease Russell with the right wing back that he wants and will probably make a decision when season finishes. I personally think it doesn't matter who we sign because the system is the fault. If the owners had real Premier League desires, this project would have ended by now. | |

I think Silverstein knows enough about football to know he will be directly or indirectly paying for Martin to leave.

However I just hope the new contract discussions are on hold. If we are to hold onto him the rest of the season promises to be no more than a struggle. Unless he comes up with some magic formula. The current system to put it kindly is flawed. I'm normally out on the beer Friday night. I hope I'm not in the pub by 9pm.

All the owners decisions are based on finances, this isn’t any different, as much as people don’t like it, it’s a fact. And those who mention Silverstein’s lack of football knowledge are about as close as they can get proving it. On the field of play will come a huge second over the next few weeks.

If Martin signs a new contract I wont renew my ST.
| Why Russell Martin has more time on 16:44 - Dec 30 with 1465 views | Badlands | The cost of losing Martin would be cost effective if we went for an unattached manager … there are literally dozens with better points per game ratings than Martin. The squad could do with strengthening but doesn’t need a great deal (depending on who leaves). There have been periods in games where they have been very, very good so a good manager would easily be the worth the extra points and there would be no time needed for nee faces to bed in. | |

Do people seriously believe that Silverstein and co are unaware of relegation and the potential down sides of being so?
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Well they should know about it yes, but how many more chances will Martin be given, 18months he's been here, but there's been little improvement just had Martin speaking about what the players should and not do and throwing them under the Bus, but not once has he shown any humility and held his hands up and on the face of it they still support him.
| Why Russell Martin has more time on 18:38 - Dec 30 with 1260 views | QJumpingJack | Most Championship clubs will have clauses in contracts that pay-offs all depend on league position at that time. eg pos 1-6, 7-17, 18-24 If we lose the next two games it may be cheaper should we fall close to the relegation zone. | | | |

Not sure that’s in their thoughts with so much of the season to go. I’m certain they will have a date or time in mind though.

They are both entwined though. The finances are driven by what goes on at pitch level. Finances of a club is directly linked to performance.
