| Alan Sheehan : We keep shooting ourselves in the foot on 09:34 - Nov 6 with 2164 views | jack247 | It won’t happen, but I’d love him to come out and say why we’ve only just started playing like this. I agree with him, we could reasonably have had six points this week, but how many have we dropped playing a formation that everybody could see didn’t work? | | | |

To be fair it’s better than some of the interviews he’s given. He’s clearly not happy with things but he’s got to take some responsibility for the tactics. I hear people say we need a striker. We’ve got them. What we don’t have is a fast link between midfield and the striker. Last night PNE had time to regroup and have a cup of tea before we got to the danger zone. We’ve got to move forward more and quicker than sideways.

Reading a Preston fans comment they were more than happy to let us have the ball because as you say our build up is slow and easy to defend against The number of points we have dropped from games we should have got something from is annoying we need more pace and less tippy tappy

| Alan Sheehan : We keep shooting ourselves in the foot on 10:58 - Nov 6 with 2044 views | streetlyjack | The slow build up play has been around all season which everyone can see and plan against, it seems we don't have the nous to play any other way. Once the ball reached the halfway line (after the usual 20 passes between our back three) you can sense there isn't a plan, we only start to become more direct when we are behind or it's the last 10 minutes of the game This is 100% a coaching issue, we only have a plan that gets us to the last third, anything after that is hope for the best which is never going to work when the opposition have 11 men behind the ball - do we actually have an attacking coach? Me and my son were at the game last night and left as frustrated and bereft as ever with the lack of cutting edge and urgency, a few other frustations which ultimately cost us last night that again I am putting down to the coaches: * Tactics - Why did we send 9 players up for a free kick when the plan was to shoot and then only leave one man (Key) at the back 1:1 with the Preston centre forward who bullies him off the ball and scores - Vig could have also helped Key out by coming off his line sooner to narrow the gap but chose to backpeddle and show him the whole bloody goal. * Corners - Do we even practice these in training? * Passing - The languid pace of our passing leaves a lot to be desired and puts pressure on the man recieving as the oppo is on top of him as soon as he gets it. We lost the ball on many occasions last night with slow passes into feet that got turned over. * Physicality - Its like watching boys vs men most of the time, I know we aren't the biggest team but the upper body strength on some of our players is abysmal. * Warm Ups - Why even practice shooting if we have little intention of having a shot? I am not one for calling for a managers head but if I was in his shoes this morning I would be questioning where this is all going because this style of play just isn't working. The players are putting a shift in, no doubt about that which leads me back to the inadequency of our coaching / tactics this season. My PTSD (Post Traumatic Swans Disorder) has flared up again | |

Ronald and Key the main culprits.. we refuse to do it then end up back on the half way line or back with the goalkeeper!! So frustrating.. especially when we had Vipotnik and Idah on last night and still wouldn't do it.. Tymon does put a decent cross on but even on the left hand side its not quick enough.. Everything we do is slow and static

I agree, at one stage I was on the verge of kicking the pouffe at one point when Ronald was out wide, and within 15 secs the ball was back on the halfway line, our tactics most of the game was the ball down the centre, or build up so slow the defence was back in palce and man marking. shooting ourselves in the foot, we are not even shooting, we would even miss our foot.

We are where we are as with Williams We couldn’t sack him ? Yes we could This league is very level and apart from Owls Nobody really relegation certs We need to wake the fork up and quit 1 fans slagging off others 2 seeing being “ nice” as a prerequisite for the manager job We should be begging to get the unemployed Carrick His appointment would’ve an immediate 2000 on home gates and our players properly deployed He might even utilise young B Wales

Excellent post that echoes everything I’ve been thinking and indeed saying for some time. The only thing I may disagree with is Vig’s part in the second goal. I’ve only seen it the once so I may be wrong but my thought at the time was that coming out to help Key could have gone terribly wrong. It did anyway but that’s hindsight for you.

It absolutely is excellent Again , the question is where are we going with him The best fans want to give him more time Question is just how much ? It’s a question of when

That’s true but when isn’t now for a whole host of reasons. I’m not convinced about Sheehan as I’ve said but for financial reasons alone he needs more time. I hope he can work on a speedier connect between midfield and attack. I hope he works on on and off all drills on the training ground. I hope he works on the defence (I’m a fan of a back 3/5) not passing it to each other and allowing the opposition to settle in place. These are all connected and we’ve got the players. Come February and these issues are showing no sign of improvement then I think questions are going to be asked. If you or others think we should or will be top 6 this season then expectations need managing. It’s not going to happen. Nor will bottom 3.

He won't be here in February unless there is a massive improvement. He has the tools he just has to learn how to utilise them.

Indeed, but the top players work at their weaknesses to improve. They don't keep making the same mistakes week after week.

I think Widell is a prime example of that and Eom who has been considerably better this season, Vipotnik speaks for himself. Galbraith is ever improving and Tymon is ever reliable and rarely drops his guard. I think that’s what gives some people hope that Sheehan will get it right. However, despite reports, goddam them, he’s sliding towards the sack. But that’s a personal opinion not what I personally want to see.
