I think Eom may well be shattered after the shift he put in on Saturday and may come off the bench. Nunes I would only use if we were desperate. Use our players from here on in particularly Walta, he's either good enough or he's not. I wouldn't be surprised to see Widell on the left and Ronald on the right with Stamenic/Franco/Walta in the middle. He may even go rouge and play Cooper wide left.

Just don’t see the need in resting anyone for the next three games. Put out your best side. If Matos makes certain decisions then he is still thinking too conservatively for me. 👍

Don't you think he should be trying to integrate Walta or is he another for the future, possibly. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Agree Yes I think we should play players that will be here next season but we must put out our strongest team for the right balance. Making changes for the sake of it resulting in a lopsided performance benefits no one.

The team tomorrow could be interesting. One thing I'm particularly impressed with is the commitment of the players at the moment nobody is on the beach, typified by the Tymon tackle on Saturday that nearly put their player into the East Stand.

| Queens Park Rangers v Swansea City : Match day thread on 08:26 - Apr 21 with 5736 views | RichardO | How do we stop the goals against tally whilst ensuring we get that goals for is higher in individual games. The shift in goals against has been noticeable in an attempt to create more we leave ourselves open to counter attacks this happened to Cooper, Martin and Williams and you can say with Sheehan as well. Cooper based his teams on solid defence and relied on a five man midfield and the abilities of Ayew the back four solid with the help of extra fullbacks to protect the flanks. It worked to a fashion but our midfield trio in the end were slow and couldn't help a slow defence trying to bridge that the gap between attack and defence but pushing up left us vulnerable to pace as seen in the play off final and it has been a lack of pace that has haunted managers since especially since to goal kick law change, how do we get higher up the pitch without leaving gaps to be exploited.Martin tried "Ad Finitium" using wingbacks, 3 ponderous inexperienced centrebacks and a pair of slow defensive midfielder and often two attacking midfielders who couldn't defend, so bridging the gap between attack and defence, to be fair to Paterson he did adapt his game but Ntcham fled, but we scored goals but we shipped them until he changed his thinking aided by the skills and quality of Joe Allen but injuries to him hampered that. Williams changed that kept us solid to a degree lots of bore draws, he changed it scored goals but shipped goals for very much the same reason as Martin, gap between the attack and defence to big and when we did try to close it we were too slow, not enough quality in the team and overcommitted players forward. Sheehan's two stinks with teams that he knew the strength of turned results into positives after seeing hipredecessors fail just by taking things and having the experience of Allen and Naughton while O'Brien ran the midfield defensively even getting forward for a couple of goals so impressing Sheehan he tried playing him further forward it didn't woork that defensive weakness reappeared towards the end of that season with O'Brien's change of position. This season greater expectation to play the new signings whose lack of experience was evident in various positions especially in the midfield, it was all too much for Sheehan not helped by advisors? So now we have Matos helped by Allen and Britton the ship stabilised, home form returned but away form not there yet getting that balance between keeping a threat up top and a solid defence which with the help of an inform Vipotnik and some outstanding saves by Vigouroux has been tricky as we try and master teams higher up the table and strive to get out of the quagmire of midtable. Against Ipswich, Coventry, Middlesbrough and Southampton did we let that urge to get forward override the need to keep defensively solid over committing at times leaving us open and gaps appearing or drop to deep to keep us solid at the defence leaving a gap to our forward line which in the end often is a single isolated centre forward them leaving us toothless with very little attacking threat leaving us rue previous half chances then overcommitting to regain loss ground as we are pegged back. We cannot afford to end up having no attacking threats up top to take advantage of teams pressing us and likewise we cannot continue lying drop deep to invite teams on. Defensively solid, high enough up the pitch to help the attack but not overcommitting trying to make use of gaps that appear as teams try attacking us but not leaving us exposed. Hopefully with time Matos is the coach to do that. | | | |

Careful now you will be accused of not being a Swansea fan by some away from here. These are very salient points Richard, obvious and extremely evidential. I see a better Swans side under Matos and that will earn him credit if it’s a sticky start next time around. Fans have to accept that it’s a results based business and the areas you have pointed out are clearly factors as to why the Swans concede goals. I’m uncertain there is a happy balance atm. The team can’t dominate games for a full match, I doubt any team can. But it’s the tactics when it all changes that need refreshing. There’s a fair few out there who don’t see that by examining the performances you start to realise where Matos is becoming more educated in his craft and indeed where he most certainly needs to reflect. It’s seen as criticising him. Of course it isn’t but this is how these things start. People bottle up or can’t describe how they see it and tip over into “Matos Out’ without realising it. Some would say it is being a tad thick to not recognise or be able to process things as you have. I just see people as wanting to be entertained and won’t analyse things too hard because of their own commitment to the club. It’s posts such as yours and a decent number of others on here that give me hope for football forums.

Possibly away from home keep it tighter in the first half and push on in the second half. With Matos intent on playing with intensity and pressing from early in the game it is sapping the strength of some of the players. Others like Tymon and Eom can handle it while others can't and in my opinion its one of the reasons why we sit deeper late in matches.. Yes we have substitutions, but players like Yalcouye and Nunes are not physically strong enough, we seem to have players who can do what Matos wants and those who can't, few of them can do it for 90 minutes.
| Queens Park Rangers v Swansea City : Match day thread on 11:04 - Apr 21 with 5643 views | streetlyjack | From what I have seen since Matos came in he can clearly motivate players and implement a more attacking threat which is a big step forward from the previous manager - for that he has my respect and has earned the opportunity to build his own team for next season. The current squad is clearly not good enough to challenge at the top, everyone can see this. The board did invest last summer so shouldnt be criticised in this respect but this just hasn't worked out and the team remains unbalanced with a lack of strength, pace and creativity. I'm hoping and expecting that Matos and his team have a clear plan in place with targets that can push us on next year. We will need to take a loss on a fair few players but best to do that early than carry on into next season with the same one dimensional approach. I hope the board still have a few shillings in the bank to fund the overhaul of this squad (including player sales which will inevitably have to happen). | |

I don't know how long we give some of the recent signings before trying to offload them. The loans this season have been the biggest disappointment and they will be gone clearing up space, we will also have the likes of Lissah and Congreve back who look better than the loans we have had.

Some have said Congreve and Parker aren't good enough think the most they need is game time and experience but the team is relatively short on the latter. I had hoped that Cotterill would gain in confidence and be a force to be reckon with in the midfield are there signs of that. As for Ollie Cooper would we have been better served bringing him on instead of Nunes given he has had a lot of experience in the Championship that may have helped Tymon as he did with Manning covering his forward run and leave Eom inthe right where he looks comfortable?
