| No friends of ours on 22:50 - Feb 4 with 3102 views | Jack59 | This was a terrible accident. Many years ago on two occasions in France, after roundabouts, I found myself driving on the wrong side of the road and facing oncoming traffic, thankfully it happened in and around Calais where they had numerous road signs with warnings. I suppose because it was near Calais, local drivers tended to be more cautious and wary of situations that can occur close to the ferry terminal. | | | |

Really, not once but twice ……….. The fact that your driving abroad makes you more vigilant, not less.

Yes, I think driving abroad does make you more vigilant. The two occasions I found myself on the wrong side were at least 20 years apart, and as we'd just come through roundabouts, we were only doing about 10 mph, the low speed meant we were able to stop with room to spare. I initially felt the american woman driver should have returned to the UK, but there seems to be an almost lynch mob mentality has been stirred up, I now think she may have been correctly advised in staying put. What sort of financial claim could the family lawyer justify if they succeeded in a prosecution? Are we talking millions? Is the financial claim an elephant in the room? All very sad indeed.

It appears she was part of the CIA secretariat, mate. Not a ‘spook’ by any stretch of the imagination but still privy to all manner of classified information. That being the case you’d have to imagine the brass at Langley would sooner see her dead than in gaol overseas with the possibility she may leak things they want kept firmly under wraps. I don’t doubt the attitude of MI6 would be similar. It’s nonsense to say that ‘Americans’ are unmoved by it. The Dunn family have received enormous sympathy Stateside across the board but this situation is as tragic is it is intractable. It’s a real mess.

As said above it’s a horrible mess and it just goes to show that there are people who are above and outside of the law. If we did a similar thing we’d be in shackles getting bummed by Mr Big in two seconds flat.

So she shuffles papers and if it goes wrong for her, like it did, they can get her out and protect her.

It stinks, I can't remember if she just left the scene after the accident, leaving the scene of any accident let alone a fatal one that she has clearly caused. She's back in America without a care in the World and they are supposed to be an ally, only when it suits them, imagine if it was the other way around, she wouldn't have left America.

Yes, is the short answer; though I’m not for one second suggesting that’s morally right. I don’t think protecting her as an individual really enters into the equation, it’s about protecting what she knows. As I said, it’s a mess.

We are supposed to be allies, friends. If they are so worried send her back with the stipulation that any sentence passed be served in the USA or under whatever other stipulation they feel protects their secrets.

They were a combined half a decade late entering both World wars, before that they fought the crown and didn't pay their taxes, I wouldn't trust them, that girl was probably spying on the UK.
