I think what he means is Winter hung on till the last minute hoping Cooper would get poached.
It backfired and we ended up getting Martin in a week before the season started.
We now have players signed by Cooper who Martin would not have signed.
Joseph being loaned back out and a rookie manager trying to implement a new style of play a week before the season was due to start.
We had a couple of really poor performances against Stoke and PNE.
Bit of a mess really yes can see what Winter was trying to do but it has left us with a mountain to climb this season. | |

Well if we price Grimes out we will lose him for nothing at the end of the season.
Could bring in maybe 2 players on 3 or 4 year deals on what we get for Grimes or possibly get Roberts to extend.
Grimes was poor Saturday again half hearted challenges looked like he was trying to avoid injury to me.

Ah ok, I see.
I don't think it's that kind of thing.
I think the club will be just as happy if Grimes stays.
Personally, I'd like to keep him, but if we can get 2 or 3 players in for the Grimes money, I'd flog him. | |

Why would we offer one if we know he wouldn't sign? These things are discussed quietly between representatives of player and club first. Besides, a lot less comes out of the club these days than in previous times.
It's not a case of who I would rather. It's a case of the club not losing two players for free when we could get several million for each. | |

Brendan Rodgers took a fair bit of stick when he left, however lots of fans forget about the contract release clause which saw the club handsomely compensated, had he wanted to he could have refused to negotiate and walked leaving the club with very little.
In terms of Grimes it’s a balancing act. Ask too much, put people off and he’ll end up seeing his contract out as a disillusioned player, or settle for a reasonable fee with a few clauses and bonuses. If it’s Fulham, I’d go for a clause lining it to promotion. | | | |
