Sakkari will be a completely different proposition in the next. Bencic is excellent but she can often beat herself when behind, she did that at times when Emma looked shaky on her last few service games.
I was speaking with Sakkari’s coach about 5/6 years ago when she was at the French Open qualifiers, playing in front of about 20 people. She lost against Grace Min, who is a bit of a journeywoman American grinder (and about 4 foot tall!!) but her quality and potential was stunning, even in defeat.
He told me that she has a drive and determination that is rare even at this level, she was physically superior to everyone back then at the qualifiers and she has continued that now she has established herself.
With the extra matches Emma has played and the fitness levels of Maria being off the charts, this one will be a tough ask. [Post edited 9 Sep 2021 5:11]

Let's also not forget Jo Konta got to number 4 in the world in the Serena era, that will take some catching. Lots can change in tennis, its incredibly physically demanding and your body has to be pretty special to endure it.
People on here complain that a player has two 90min games in the space of a week. These players sometimes have 5 a week, multiple hour long marathons with just December off, flying in between destinations, often across time zones.
She has excellent promise and is probably currently top 25 in reality, but would be unfair to make bold predictions in such a strong field. The women's game has incredible depth with superstars emerging from everywhere.

No, they didn’t get it wrong.
I’ve tried to explain that to you before but you didn’t understand odds and probabilities back then and can’t for the life of me imagine you understand now.
They (we) gave her a 45.5% chance of winning. Which was undoubtedly correct. People mistakenly think that if someone is odds against, and they win - then the odds were wrong. That’s a fundamental lack of understanding of the way in which probabilities and odds work.
The odds won’t be too dissimilar if they meet in the next hard match up either. Potentially $1.83 each due to form, maybe $1.80 vs $1.95 in Sakkaris favour. A movement of a few %, no more than that. [Post edited 10 Sep 2021 7:32]

It was a clever game plan from her coach Andrew Richardson.
Not sure if you noticed but Sakkari loves the down the T serve on big points, Richardson seemed to tell Raducanu to cover it at all costs. Sakkari then had to make serves she didn’t like and as a result her first serve % dropped to around 50%.
The serve is one of Sakkaris biggest weapons which is rare in the women’s game outside of the likes of Sabalenka and Williams, and it absolutely rattled her. At one point in this tournament Sakkari won something like 21 straight service points, that’s almost unheard of in the women’s game (and pretty rare in the men’s).
Clever game plan, solid ground game, mixed with an absolute inability to feel (or show rather) any sign of nerves was a deadly combination.
She played Fernandez and beat her in straight sets in the Juniors, although that was on grass. So the signs are good that she may go on and complete the job. Quite remarkable really. [Post edited 10 Sep 2021 7:45]

Incorrect, just like Dustin Brown isn't a better player than Nadal when he beat him at Wimbledon . In fact he has a 2-0 winning record against Nadal.
Nadal is world number 5 with 20 Grand Slams - Brown is world 348 and never been in the top 50. Their results vs each other are an irrelevance to who is the better player. | |
