| Obafemi on 00:04 - Jan 9 with 1636 views | ReslovenSwan1 | He has scored 4 Premier league goals is strong and fast. He has not had a decent long run in the team like Cullen. He is in the same place as Piroe was last season. Same age good pedigree few chances to impress. Piroe has kicked on once given the chance. He was boosted by an easy goal v a youthful Reading team and found a good partnership with the clever player Patterson. Obafemi was highly thought of at Southampton and 'earned' the red card by pressurising the defender. After the red card Southampton sat back such that he could no long utilise his pace so much. Swansea needs to adjust the balance and get in more runners rather than passers. They do not need O'Riley although he is a fine player. A Josh Bowler type player would be more useful. Obafemi today was up against Premier league players. He should do well in the lower league and capable of scoring freely. | |

I saw Ante Rajkovic 's debut way back. I was not impressed at all. He looked slow and disinterested. He turned into a monster defender like Ashley Williams.

I called Celina powderpuff when we were all on planet swans and said he was league 1 at best. I got a few pelters for that, reruns of the Man City goal etc. but it was my gut reaction. And I’m getting the same feeling about this guy. I just hope I’m wrong.

He doesn’t seem that involved in the game.

The biggest two problems for me were as you said his"touch" and his lack of attacking the defense when he had the ball. Even Ntcham and Dhanda created more trouble for their defense in the short time they were on that he did the whole game. Even Cullen tried taking on players by passing them or going around them.
| Obafemi on 15:19 - Jan 9 with 1380 views | Thornburyswan | He plays on or too often beyond the final shoulder so needs a team to be playing him in with a through ball for him to run onto - two issues currently (1) we prefer a sideways pass & (2) he spends too much time beyond the final shoulder & offside. That said it would be fair to say he’s not had a decent run in the side to see if he could improve that - difficult to fit him in with 5 at the back when Grimes, Downes, Ntcham, Pato & Piroe appear to be the first names on the team sheet. His best chance will come if we go with 4 at the back. | | | |

I don't think he was offside anywhere near as often as Piroe, who was for him quite lazy getting back on side.

Ashley Williams was a good player for us, but to mention Ante Rajkovic and him in the same sentence, is Sacrilege.

| Obafemi on 21:51 - Jan 9 with 1275 views | Ajack_Kerouac | Obafemi has got something. If I was going to bet on it though I would bet that he will fade into obscurity and years from now people will look back on the idea that we sold a striker with a proven track record in this division, in this team, for peanuts...and were fine with that because Obafemi was going to replace him...as ludicrous. I hope it does work out for him. Would take coaching and adjusting of the team to get the most out of him though. However, I have seen no evidence that Martin has any intention (never mind an idea of how to go about it) of helping Obafemi to find a role in the team. Usually in games (about the hour mark), when I'm thinking 'it would be worth going 2 up front and giving Obafemi a whirl...Martin opts to make the most bizarre sub I could possibly think of. e.g. - taking Laird off for a centre-back or moving Downes to centre-half, putting Ntcham in CM and pushing Korey smith up behind the striker. | |

Ante was a great player but only 6 international caps. Ashley 86 international caps and many more games for Swansea. Al his time in Swansea was successful every season. The was Swansea's greatest two era s and Ashley's lasted a lot longer.

No it’s not. Arguably the finest centre backs in the history of our club.

Ante, my dad said he was the finest centre back he ever saw in a white shirt. And he went back to 1948. Can you imagine him in this swans side ?

He was. He was much respected and solid. He was not with u a long a Ash though. He and Ash would be some pairing. Imagine 2 centre halves in our team playing-as centre halves

Isn't this need for a lot of players "beneffiting by being loaned out" a suggestion that our Manager and coaches can't get the best out of them?

I don't think we can compare international caps between the 2 countries. Chris Gunter has had over 100 caps!! Enough said.

We had a similar issue with Bafetimbi Gomis. He’d be making these top class runs and the ball would come too late and he’d be getting pelters for being offside. You have to play to players strengths and we aren’t playing to a lot of ours.

It's often the case that strikers get the blame for the teams shortcomings, even more so when they've featured as fleetingly as Obafemi has. If he (or Whittaker) had had the chances that Cullen had and looked lost then fine. As it is he's looked OK in the game time he's had so far. Not amazing, but OK. He should only improve with more of it. [Post edited 15 Jan 2022 17:18]
