Anyone else feeling the pinch yet? I can't believe it, the electric has more than doubled, since this came into effect.

Not really using much gas at the moment, but come October I believe there is going to be another 30% increase, If that is the case HTF? Are many people going to cope? Perhaps my estimates are wrong, but by my reckoning it will be close to a 100 quid a week for Gas/Electric and also including water as well..

Now that will be bleak, the implications of this are terrible for many.

Time to get rid of the 25% that goes to Green levies.

But if we do we will have the liberal leftie scum demonstrating, they seem to want it both ways.

I currently live in a two bedroom house.
I am looking to downsize to an apartment to cut living costs, as just me and the dog.
I know a lot of people who will struggle this year

Be careful of the leasehold responsibilities and management charges on a flat, a two bedroom house may work out less expensive.

I guess we are amongst the lucky ones now. With my occy pension and my wifes wages we were coping but then I returned to full time work in February and we are in a fixed tariff deal until April 2023. We're overpaying for gas and electric and building up a cash reserve for next year.

Very many people will struggle, pensioners, those on benefits, students, it will be hard and people will suffer and die.

The government should be taking away all green levies, that would take 23% off the bills. Even then they should be taking VAT off petrol for the duration because that would also help stop inflation rising.

It obviously doesn't help that the national insurance rise has kicked in now too.

It's a perfect storm, bills have risen massively and taxes have risen while wages haven't kept up with inflation, the government has to do something but Bojo is too busy trying to hide or deflect from partygate.
The last thing we need at a time like this is a PM mired in scandal and sleaze...then there's the Chancellor too.

It's a broken record now but if Labour can't make any headway in the polls and the local votes now, they may as well shut up shop and go home.

The Tory government have found £1.2 billion to send some poor people to Rwanda, but have no money to assist with the very real fuel poverty.

Get these Tory clowns OUT ….🤡

Okay thanks.
I am also factoring in fuel costs for vehicle, as intending to be able to walk to shops, etc and walk dog.
Currently have to drive everywhere as nowhere near me to walk the dog, go shopping, etc within walking distance.

Skewen might suit you. The shops are pretty good, there's the train station and Skewne park is quite large with Tennant field there you Drummau mountain is also a good walk if the dog isn't too old.

Lived in Skewen for 36 years.
Wern Road - park was right behind me.
Live in Birchgrove now just off Drummau.
Looking for something near sea or river for waterborne activities.
I do like Skewen though

I remember you telling me now, I'm on Crymlyn. The problem with something near the sea is the expense, flats in the Marina are very expensive, so I'm told. There's always higher costs with being on a seafront.

When we win the Euromillions we'll buy you a house down Mumbles, on the seafront

Skewen is not like it was - where is? Many pubs have closed, most ppl jump in their cars to Tesco or Aldi. The train station is handy though and buses to Swansea run quite often up to about 6pm when they stop altogether.Neath is just a mile or so away - if that's a good thing.

Cooking wise cut up your veg smaller when it's boiled turn off the gass /electric leave the lid on it will carry on cooking

Same if you're boiling eggs, pasta etc

If you using oven turn it off ten minutes earlier it will still cook

I understand people saying places are not like they were, nowhere is. I was born and grew up in Mumbles which is vastly different now to when I left in 92.

Thing is, it's not worth thinking like that when you are looking for somewhere to live. The only thing to do is look for what you need, or the closest you can get to that.

If you keep looking backwards like that, you'll never find anywhere.

Appreciate what you are saying.
Skewen when I moved there had every shop you could need within walking distance.
As well as banks, pubs, etc and a good bus service.
Over the best part of forty years, all the banks closed, many of the pubs, all the ironmongers, butchers, fruit and vegetable shops, all bar one of the bakers ( and the one left is a chain ).
Out of area shopping is the usual for most now.
Plus parking ( same as most traditional places with older housing stock ) is at a premium. When I moved in most houses had one car at most. By the time I moved out two or three cars in each house was not uncommon.
Newer estates offer better parking etc, but IMHO are soulless.
Had loads of great neighbours in Skewen and very much still a village feel in that respect.

Mate of mine lives on Crymlyn. It's a nice spot but a pain in the arse for speed bumps no matter what direction you approach it from.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

We bought a Ninja air fryer that also roasts hardly ever use the normal oven now.

Cooks really quick and food very tasty. Medium size chicken takes about 45 minutes.

I used to use a slow cooker a lot. It's cheaper and you can cook a large meal, eat some and put the rest in the fridge or freezer.

For smaller groups/family, use a steamer, all veg etc done on one ring, also tastes better.

Yes if you come from the Trallwn direction I think there are now something like 20 between the start of the lane at Trallwn and the mini roundabout at the end of Crymlyn Road.
Some lovely houses on that road though

I've bought the wife a thick coat from the charity shop to cut down on the heating, we only take a bath once a fortnight (we take it in turns who jumps in first) , we've also started walking to the local food bank, it's amazing what you can save by economising.
