With Truss aiming to clamp down on unions aka Maggie, I think theres a rough road ahead, all nice to forget the Covid disasters and money .

I think he’s right. Truss can legislate against the unions, but I’m not convinced that will be effective because I think there could well be large scale civil unrest and the police will not be able to cope. The cost of energy is going to be a huge issue and it’s Putin’s ace card. If the government don’t get this right there’s going to be an economic disaster, our bills will be capped at very high levels but the cost for industry will go through the roof. Shops, pubs, factories, schools hospitals are all going to get smashed and unemployment will rocket. Elsewhere on this forum Gwyn737 has highlighted the implication for us school’s budget, 1 teacher and 2 support staff, that’s potentially north of £60k and it’s going to really impact on children’s educations.

To put it more simply Industrial unrest and strikes are what really floats the boats of Union Officials as it gives them a purpose. They come alive Bugger the country It is every man for himself as long one's own Union gets the cream. Pickets: there to intimidate.Nothing more.

"Pickets: there to intimidate.Nothing more." Not all. I could give you an example of the other side of the story! I do see more outrage in months ahead once Truss gets her feet in, and starts performing, I am sure things will start too happen.

Absolutely not. Without unions, normal people would get crushed, We protested peacefully outside court. No intimidation at all. All power to my colleagues striking. There’s a common denominator here

Make me think about the self employed and if they would/could walk out. Put it this way,my niece is a GP and she once remarked how the fittest people seemed to be self employed as didnt ever remember them with anything trivial.

I’m self employed, all barristers are. I’ve seen colleagues collapse with heart attacks, strokes, turn to drink and drugs. The pressure is immense in being involved in big serious cases, many can’t cope. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

God forbid people go on strike for better pay and working conditions in the current climate. More power to anyone demanding a fair deal from their employer in order to live comfortably. People need to stand together against the media and companies contantly running down working people.

Bear in mind I often post tongue in cheek Felix. You should know by now. The 60/70s saw the decline start with the Dockers then Miners,Power Workers and Car Workers, and this carnage didnt stop until the 90s when the damage had been done. Crap cars made by crap workers and crap management. We've leaned nothing.

Please explain the reality of the last few years then. A lot of record profits at the top, huge increases in wealth disparity. Working people claiming benefits, barely affording housing and using food banks. Run down public services, faeces in the rivers and sea. Is that the reality you want to settle for? The top % getting everything snd you being happy to have the heating on for an hour in winter. In regard to your second post, i use the phrase working people to describe those going out 5 days a week or more, doing their job and scraping by. The working class of people who could not afford to be unemployed.

I’m not explaining anything to yiu as I would be wasting my time. Your mind is shut and it’s not down to me to break down the door. So a CEO isn’t a worker then. What about a Dentist,Doctor, Architect, all well paid,no matter what they say . Workers or not . Better still, save it ,don’t waste your time on me Bry. Out brothers out

The game is up. Its tired old rhetoric to set worker against worker. It wont work. As Mick Lynch says all shareholder dividends are unpaid wages. The system needs to be far better balanced. The people need ownership of everything from the plough to the stars. Tories out. They pump shite into our beaches. 💩 [Post edited 22 Aug 2022 17:14]

Can you ask Mick Lynch why the RMT has millions invested in BP, Shell and other companies and receives dividends. Perhaps they could return these assets to their members.

This has sweet FA to do with Ztory scum or Labour come to that . It is the real world. Vastly increasing wages simply increases inflation which eats away at the household incomes of those not at work through age. The old can’t go on strike

Well that is your perogative. Might i just add that maybe i should've phrased it better and "lower wage worker" might have been better. Also to suggest people with a different view that your own are close minded is pretty cheap. Either way, have a nice evening.

Balanced is the right word. It’s great that these successful companies are making massive profits. Take Tesco for example. A great British success story. One of the biggest retail groups in the world. They made well over £2 billion profit last year. Yet the huge majority of their 350,000 workforce are on virtually minimum wage and on part time contracts they can barely survive on. Surely they and companies like these can afford to give a little bit more back to those who work hard and drive their success every day. Every little helps right?

Why is the French energy cost uplift just 4% then ? UK energy cost uplift is over 200%. So its not as simple as Putin. It is bad political choices made by the Tory party. Tory English nationalists have sold us out.
