You ll know I have stated the language divides it’s a fact No offence is meant by that .Growing up in Swansea was very anglised although plenty of Welsh chapels around Me ol gran went to the one off Manor Road and was Welsh speaking being sFertuside girl She brought all her children up English speaking although she spoke to her husband in Welsh .

There are. However, educating kids in Welsh is one thing. Them continuing to use it afterwards is another.
My eldest niece was educated in Welsh all the way through to comp. She's barely uttered a word of it since going to college and why would she? None of her friends use it. None of her family use it. None of the entertainment she consumes is in Welsh either. Give it three or four years and what she does know she'll forget most of.
There will always be a percentage of homes where Welsh is the first language and that can be maintained, but the belief that more than a small percentage of the population will ever have more than a passing use for the language in the modern world has always been a pipe dream. | |
