The community spirit you find at this time of the year is brilliant and so many people smiling, this is probably not the case in big towns and cities but it is in local communities. Plus the excitement and anticipation of young children, a great time of the year. |  | | |

I’ve got mixed views on Christmas. I think the religious /spiritual and community aspects of Christmas are disappearing and its being replaced by rampant materialism and commercialism.
It can be a magical time, especially when there are youngsters involved and a sizeable proportion of the public do their bit and undertake charitable acts, but it can also be a very difficult time for lots of people. The commercialism and peer pressure will see families spend money they don’t have.
I believe people aren’t as enthusiastic and excited about this Christmas as they’ve been in previous years. There are lots of negative factors influencing people’s thoughts including Putin in Ukraine, concern over energy costs, rampant inflation increasing costs, tax increases, strikes, mortgage rates going up and all these will affect people. I have a half day tomorrow then I'm off til the 3rd Jan. I got a 500 quid bonus this month and was paid yesterday.
Christmas is sorted, myself and the wife have bought one present each, our son has only asked for 3 things, 2 we have got, one we cannot find in his size but we got him something else.
This Christmas for us is very low key. We have hardly any decs up, literally all we have is a small tree on our quite large window sill with a few lights because we have a 16 week old puppy, he's called ollie AKA the devil in disguise, he's caused more damage in 3 weeks than our previous dog did in 13.5 years!
All we are going to do is visit my sister one day next week for lunch.
It's not that money is tight for us, not yet anyway, it's more that the puppy would have a proper tree down and we just never found the time to put any other decs up. Christmas sneaked up on us good and proper.
Lets hope next year is better. lets hope the financial situation has eased, the strikes yield some positive news for workers, lets hope the government have removed their heads from their behinds.
