| Afghanistan 18:07 - Dec 20 with 1653 views | max936 | The Taliban have banned women from going to universities now, yet another mess the west has left, they cause chaos wherever they go to make a "difference" shocking. All those lives lost on both sides and for what, Iraq the same, I think we wouldn't have the Syrian problem if Cowboy Bush and his side kick Blair hadn't lied. | |

Maybe we should accept other countries have different cultures and religious practices and let them get on with it. We shouldn’t ever have tried to change the world

On the face of it, for Afghanistan, the changes the west brought them albeit temporarily was for the betterment for everyone but we couldn't sustain it ,now the country's descended back into chaos and withit making the world less secure (if that could ever be possible)

Democracy is not for everyone. Afghanis in general simply don't get it.The only way to buy their loyalty is to pay them more than the next invader. The British learned that lesson in the 19th century

Religion didn't force the US and allies to invade Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea, ww1 , ww2, or even the conflict in the Ukraine. Religion has nothing to do with the vast majority of wars

My point is that changing a whole country s mindset is almost impossible. Taliban are driven by what their religion tells them evidencing perfectly the dangers of religion .Replies from pantheists like Jim show our land is also affected ,as our most if not all countries That’s todays nonsense from me anyway

Jim’s right. If it wasn’t for religion, these people would find another excuse. I’m not religious but it helps a lot of people and others do a great deal of good in its name. Just dropped something off at our local foodbank, all staffed by the local church. (Local Muslims, Sikhs all do similar )

Some use it as a justification, as it's written down that makes the justification easy. I'll always remember Blair and Bush saying they had "god on their side" before turning the Middle East upside down. I think you'll find that the Taliban believe that they are following their religion to the letter. [Post edited 21 Dec 2022 11:55]

Whos truth yours ? their laws are based on their interpretation of the Koran , a religious document written by religious scholars which is followed by many of its country's citizens . I believe you're a catholic , do you believe that abortion is a sin ? and if yes then you're following a religion which not long ago was the basis of law in many parts of the world , in fact In the Catholic Church, canon law is the system of laws and legal principles made and enforced by the church's hierarchical authorities to regulate its external organization and GOVERNMENT in to order and direct the activities of Catholics toward the mission of the church. Obey the religion then you're obeying the law & vice versa . Its just you don't approve of their religion but defend yours ,take that to the extreme and that's exactly how wars start .

Most religions have evolved, unfortunately, the current Muslim regime in Afghanistan interpretation of the Koran is stuck in the middle ages.

It was Trumps decision to withdraw, his admin negotiated with the Taliban, but then he got kicked out by the electorate

I agree , it's taken the Catholic church until the 21st Century to allow grudgingly allow abortions , some evolvement takes longer than others so it would seem

At least the Catholic church is moving forward, albeit slowly. Whilst the Taliban are going in the opposite directions.

No he is not. Are you seriously suggesting the genocide carried out over millennia has not the taint of religion within. Religion is there to encapsulate mankind and to ensure insecurity considering death Everlasting life John. Unborn babies souls in limbo. Purgatory the waiting room. Please …

Let’s not forget the Catholic state of Ireland sponsoring child abuse over decades Babies taken away by nuns Priests treating altar boys as sex toys All this and preying on the vulnerable while they pray to Mary. Praying to Mary alone and not Jesus is heresy to practising baptists for whom everlasting life comes only with belief that Jesus died for our sins ,including babies. Huguenots were slaughtered over this very interpretation of the New Testament Who s next ?

Stating facts mate It’s in the scriptures. It’s how it is interpreted. Try being raised in a fundamentalist welsh baptist household. Painful, trust me. Religion really is the most corrosive element of life which mankind has taken on to assuage his insecurity and how he is unable to grasp the fact that when you die, that is it. Everlasting life is what is preached . Think on it It takes some doing and not all have the objective intelligence lot do so although many are crippled by a bringing up with the threat of an angry God looking down. We actually teach this fear with our very youngest children . Imagine being told if you die and don’t believe your soul will be cast to the four strong winds of hell. This is the salvation that is preached so we can overcome death as did Jesus. Next….
