Personally I'd basically leave the side as it was v Bristol , we looked more balanced at the back and midfield despite Darling's lack of attacking intent and maybe add Fulton instead of Cundle , but with options on the bench there's enough there to make the necessary tweaks should we be winning or losing IMO

Four wins from 20+ league games.

| Russell Martin pre Cardiff : ‘Strongest bench we’ve had since I’ve been at on 19:49 - Mar 30 with 1274 views | Dr_Parnassus | Russell has benefited from the worst Cardiff City side in decades, it’s a travesty he’s living off that. 21st this season, one place above relegation to league 1. 18th last season. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a derby win as much as the next man/woman and recognise his record for us in them. But I’m under no illusion that the task in recent years has been a relatively simple one. He needs to be judged on far more than the derby games and the odd player who does well. If we are talking about ambition then that sounds like the ambition graveyard. He has much work to do and should not be trying to get away with such modest victories and attempt to suggest that is all that is expected of him, because it isn’t. There is only one way investors are going to get a return here, and it isn’t through a player trading model or beating Cardiff, they are a small part of a much larger picture which is success in the league. | |

The side is fine. It's the manager who is lacking.

I don’t think it is personally. Probably the best left back in the league, a Welsh international and England U-21 CB pairing, Joe Allen, Matt Grimes, Joel Piroe, Pato, Ntcham, a multi million pound Darling, young stars like Cooper. This is a very good side indeed. Some of these players were performing at the World Cup only a matter of months ago.

Potentially. We just need a manager who knows how to play an effective brand of football. We need a manager to value attacking width and understand that a possession based system cannot be centrally mobile. It’s taken him nearly 4 years and I’m still not sure he’s figured that out. Currently we are just wasting time, treading water until the next guy comes in, whoever that may be. I just hope by the time he leaves us, we still have the strength in the core that he has enjoyed. Not many championship teams have the luxury of the calibre of player we have, certainly not many outside the playoffs.

We will of course disagree, but the manager have is the manager to take us forwards.

I can’t see it personally. 4 seasons, not a sniff of a top half finish, making the same mistakes and blaming the same things over and over again. Take an interview from 4 years ago and put it to the modern day and you could barely tell a difference. Going on about individual errors, dominating but not winning, not being sure how his side have lost. I don’t see how anyone can progress by making the same mistakes they were making on day 1 in day 1300 odd in his managerial career, and not even realise they are mistakes - that for me is the main concern. I don’t think he will be a manager at all in 5 years time, let alone manager of us. I think he will have one more gig after us and then Jack it in and concentrate on other ventures.

It is the worst Swanses side in the 14 seasons we were last in league 1 and even in our promotion season from league 1 it could be argued it was a better team than our current side.

It would be interesting to see how that side would be managed by Martin? And how this side might be managed by Martinez?

We have had one win in recent months. ONE. Beating Cardiff would be some progress . We ll see how this one develops There is no justification for many in feeling sanguine about Russ, or the Owners . We need a complete reset.

I’m no Martin fan and disagree with you on this for all the points Dr P states BUT it matters not whether we or they were fielding their weakest sides over the last couple of seasons. Firm has never been a factor in the derby so it’s irrelevant. One side was pumped up for the 2 games last season and Martin was the manager. For that, he deserves all the credit. I’d have him gone now mind!
