"When does the renters rights bill become law?" Not soon, especially with repercussions Landlords could face and the costs involved these people don't get rich by spending, the big boys I mean not the little man with half a dozen rental properties.

The letting agent has apologised for their oversight in not applying for the licence after they said they'd apply for it, an email exchange has been published which confirms this. Boris Johnson’s offence was very minor in the grand scheme of things, having cheese and wine in a garden isn’t exactly the crime of the century under normal circumstances but he broke trust and had to go. As Starmer said himself “lawmakers cannot be law breakers”. Labour under Starmer chased down every minister for the most minor indiscretion. They cannot now just say an apology suffices.

You can’t compare Boris’s flagrant disregard and breaking of the law with Reeves. It’s clear from the chain of emails the Letting Agent was instructed to and supposed to sort the licence out. The Letting Agent has apologised for their error in not applying for the licence. If these facts are correct I don’t believe Reeves has a case to answer, if on the other hand she and her husband hadn’t asked the Letting Agent to sort it and the Letting Agent hadn’t said they were sorting it that would be a different story. If the e mails are a fabrication then she should be out and prosecuted. [Post edited 30 Oct 22:12]

The fact that people think that Johnson was forced out for eating cheese and drinking wine in the garden blows my mind.

It was an accumulation of misdemeanours that led to his position being untenable but the lying over the Covid gatherings was the biggest hammer blow. Starmer, Rayner, the whole lot of them were outraged he didn’t stand down immediately. They cannot now expect the same level of pressure and criticism fall on Reeves.

I’d argue Chris Pincher was the hammer blow. An account of things that led to his cabinet resigning. I’m not defending Reeves but the idea that they are comparable is a bit nuts to me. It’s like saying all criminals are the same. I got a speeding ticket once. Does that make me a criminal like Harold Shipman? I’d also challenge those saying out politicians are necessary worse. Just as an example Lloyd George did far worse things than Reeves. [Post edited 31 Oct 14:31]

She's not reliable, she went from we did not know about the fee to here's some emails between us and the agent saying the agent was arranging the fee.

| And on and on it goes on 10:03 - Nov 1 with 1547 views | AnotherJohn | I personally don't believe that this in itself warrants resignation, but there seem to me to be two unresolved issues. The first is that RR changed her story, at first saying that she was unaware of the requirement for a license (reportedly what she first told Starmer) but later saying that she knew this was needed and instructed the letting agent to make the arrangement (the current version of what happened). Secondly, if the latter applies why did RR or her husband not notice that the fee of £900 had not been taken from the relevant bank account? As I say, I don't expect a resignation over this omission (we'd all suffer from the reaction of the bond market), but it makes RR look either shifty (saying anything to sidestep a problem) or lacking capacity for detail. | | | |

It shows a shocking level of incompetence. They’re running these incredible offices of state. There’s only so far “I’m sorry I made a mistake” can go. Especially when they are perceived to have made a financial gain from it. Trust in politics is at an all time low and these cretins are making these silly “mistakes” almost on a weekly basis. It can’t go on like this. If she’s making these rudimentary mistakes in her private affairs how can we trust her to run the economy? We even saw her bawling her eyes out on the front bench. The job is far too big for her.

A third question has now come up. Why did Rachel Reeves initially tell Starmer that she was unaware of the need for a license when a 2nd letting agency, Knight Frank, has stated that it advised Reeves and/or husband about the need for a license before they decided to give the business to Harvey & Wheeler? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15249351/Rachel-Reeves-warned-two-estat If what Knight Frank reportedly says is correct this is looking worse for Reeves . If she had anything about her she would resign her and her husband obviously knew about the need for the licence. And Starmer is to weak to sack her
