Woman on before him still convinced that Labour have anything to do with the working class any more.

Spent more time bipping about Iran than anything else so far. Mentioned Immigration once, and then only to claim that it was going down.

A speech designed for his own supporters. People who don't like him or Labour will not be swayed by this.

Fraudulent gaslighting bo-lax

Both he and Rayner keep diminishing the open borders problem and the effects of it.

He skimmed over immigration and she didn't mention it at all...

Like someone said the other day changing the Labour leadership is like shitting your pants and changing your hat. Pointless.

Labour intend to do nothing but pay lip service to stopping the boats so they have to be ousted and while many don't like Farage they may well vote Reform to get some sort of sanity back to basket case Britain...

They had their chance and they've blown it - it's been a disastrous 2 years ...

“Cunnilingus and Psychiatry brought us to this …”

Don’t know why he keeps banging on about status quo. I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea but they did some good songs.

Particularly relevant to Starmer.

Down down deeper and down.

I think that steel nationalisation was probably designed to be the trump card, and I would not necessarily oppose that if done right. Otherwise, I agree with most of the critical comments in the thread. At least I don't recall Starmer saying "we will work at pace". Pretty grim stuff, but we have to remember there are even worse Labour options waiting in the wings. I am hoping they do not alienate the bond markets to the extent that we need an IMF bail out. That could cost us all big time.

He ignored the fact that one of the major reasons heavy industry in this country such as steelmaking is struggling is because of his own party's lunatic Net Zero energy costs. You don't have to Nationalise Steel. You just have to make it financially viable for such industries to operate. Now the taxpayer is going to pick up the bill instead.

He ignored the fact that high employment costs are one of, if not the major reasons why youth unemployment is rising. It's all well and good training apprentices, but if it costs a company the same money to hire someone experienced then why would they take on an apprentice?

And he also ignored the fact that people in the Red Wall don't give a shit if Tristan and Lucinda have more, easier opportunities to have a gap year abroad. They do give a shit about their communities being flooded by people with no right to be there by a Government completely uninterested in dealing with the problem, yet very interested in jailing you if you complain about it.

I’m not against nationalisation in principle for all vital industries and services. If it all kicks off we need to be completely self sufficient in the basics. However given this lots dire record of running things it doesn’t bode well.

Well you cant hire people who don't exist. There is a shortage of trades and my company cannot fill its vacancies so has offered apprenticeships to try and fill the gap.
Starmer is a berk, a wet lettuce and I see nobody in the wings that people will trust.

Nothing to do with net Zero. P Talbot was purely a business decision by the owners. Just as, Dow Chemicals is partly closing it's site in Barry , and importing the basic products cheaper from China. Capitalism is wonderful isn't it?

Just listened to Stephen Kinnock praising parts of Starmers speech on newsnight - parts like closer ties with Europe . We left the E U ten years ago no one is interested in the E U . Sort out the problems in this country ! Also saying that Starmer highlighted the lies told by Farrage to the electorate !??
Nothing about the concerns of ordinary people afaik Farrage has told the truth labour have failed to listen to the people its as simple as that.

From where I’m sitting Farage’s is warm as toast and I wouldn’t trust him one bit. There's a lot of unanswered questions around his finances and financial backing, he's getting a relatively easy ride from a lot of the media but there really needs to be transparency. Boris avoided scrutiny in the 2019 GE by hiding in the fridge and failing to participate in debates and tv programs unlike the other party leaders and a repetition is the last thing we need.

Stephen Kinnock…. He’s had a pretty privileged life so far. He needs to focus on listening to the concerns of the general public and sorting out whats important to people or he’ll be collecting his P45 in a few years.

Closer ties to the EU may not be a bad thing, the world has changed a lot since 2016. There was a lot of talk about trade deals with the US back in the day, but that’s proved to be a complete non starter and with Trump in the Oval Office and tariffs the name of the game it’s never going to happen. We’re also seeing Russia sowing the seeds of discord everywhere, a more united front is beneficial in supporting Ukraine and making it easier for companies to trade with the EU is sensible.

Certain EU countries will make any reasonable deal - meaning anything short of rubbing our nose in the dirt - unattainable, I'd support closer cooperation on defence to counter the Russian threat, but look at what happened when the UK tried to participate in Security Action for Europe fund. France was more interested in grabbing as many of the contracts for itself than increasing European defence industry capacity to include UK companies - something that is critical if Europe is hoping to be able to stand up to Russia. It remains unclear whether we have a chance to take part in the second tranche. I foresee problems right across the board in trade talks, and given how poor the recent economic performance of the big EU countries has been, the cost benefit balance of pushing ahead doesn't look great to me.

The EU is dying. Slower than is convenient, but it is.

Nationalist politics is on the rise across the continent as people wake up to what is being done to them. Sure, for the moment the vested interests can gang up enough to keep them out of power for now, but that will come to an end eventually.

The irony is that if it had been left as it was, as a partnership of free countries working together then it would still be strong now. Much stronger than it is as it wouldn't have regulated itself into increasing irrelevance, but they had to go Nation building. They had to try and cut the Demos out as much as they could.

If they'd called a halt maybe even ten years ago the thing could have been wrapped up peacefully. Now I'd be surprised if they can manage it without bloodshed. Certainly the likelihood of Sectarian/Ethnic violence is rising rapidly.

That's all he's interested in his winning votes to stay in power, he thinks the voters are that guible that he'll give out a few titbits before a GE thinking he smooz the electorate.

Man's a complete louse.
