My point is to the majority it will make little difference. Until they introduce a system to block VPN's nothing will change, the technology is there they don't want to do it. This is just Starmer trying to create a legacy before he goes. | | | |

If they're trying to protect kids then they'd be banning Bluesky which is chock full of Paedo... I mean minor attracted persons. But they're not.

Restrictions on these functionalities will also be on by default for under 16- and 17-year-olds to prevent a cliff-edge at 16. The government will also be looking in more detail at overnight curfews and breaks in infinite scrolling for under-18-year-olds and will set out more detail in July.
You can vote & get married at 16 but it seems the government are looking to stop 16-18 year olds looking at social media when they wish.
My daughter & son in law can manage the time my grandkids are on social media/X box/PlayStation but it seems some parents are incapable of doing this. |  | | |

Everyone else will have to submit their passports/driving licence to prove they are over 18. The government will know exactly who uses every social media account which is what this is really about. It’s nothing to do with the children. |  |

I agree, the complexity of the internet makes any sort of regulation problematic. It appears that agreeing standards with platform providers needs to be part of the mix. There's the possibility of sanctioning platform providers who won't comply. [Post edited 15 Jun 16:54]
