Welcome to The Championship - A View... 18:31 - Mar 17 with 5760 viewscoolranger

1. The highest quality 'competitive' league in the whole of Europe
2. The 5th best supported league in the whole of Europe
3. Numerous 'big' clubs with great traditions and strong fan bases
4. New London derbies we might actually win, and some we can even walk to!
5. Another chance at a Wembley Play-Off, given 'we don't do Cups'
6. The likely excitement of 'being in the promotion mix'
7. A chance to score more than 2 goals in a game, on a regular basis
8. A chance to keep more clean sheets
9. A chance to win MORE than ONE away game in a whole season!
10. A chance to compete in something where we can be 'competitive'
10. A chance to dream again instead of....
11. Going home 3 out of 4 weeks with your hopes crushed
12. A chance to ENJOY more games and be ENTERTAINED again!!!
13. A chance to SMILE AGAIN on a matchday

Don't know about the rest of you, but from where I'm sitting this doesn't look so bad. We'll come back to the PL in a few years, but let's go and have some fun with this lot for a while first!!

It sounds great but you know that everyone is really worried that actually we'll manage to get relegated and get all the bad stuff and none of the good stuff.

Hopefully it'll be as you say.

What I really worry about is the possibility of a transfer embargo or two. That'd make it a less happy experience judging by the number of players we're going to lose one way or another in the summer...

Can we go out yet?

Well I reached this feeling two months before the last time we went down, where I became so punch drunk with disappointments that all the fun of going to football had become a distant memory.

Just turning up week after week in hope more than expectation, only to lose by an unlucky 87th minute winner or get thumped 4-0 by someone else in a bonus game.

I'm jaded with it to be honest.

Isn't the problem that if you win the thing then you get promoted?

I blame Paladini. If he'd have fcuked up the Faurlin paperwork better then we'd have never got promoted in the first place...

A massive clearout of senior (high earning) players
An over reliance on youngsters - most of whom won't be good enough
A masive FFP fine
Turnover down 70%
Costs down 25%
Crowds down 20%
Rotherham, Huddersfield and Leeds away. On a Tuesday night.

Sounds great.

Wouldn't mind the Championship at all, as such.

Royally p*ssed off to lose the first international quality player we've had for years, or for that matter Phillips just as we've started to get something out of him.

Not too keen on a transfer ban either, given some of the players we might have to hang on to in that case

It was miserable for 90% of last season and of the 15 years in there before only 3 of them were any good. All this talk of entertainment, lots of goals etc all bollocks if the team is no good.

I think if we go down we'll be looking at another relegation, similar to Fulham this season.

It's a bog standard league full of bog standard teams.

All of your points are based on us performing well, which I cannot see happening at this time.

Our best bet right now is to somehow stay up and build from there. I fear for us if we go down I really do.

I think the Conference is the way to go, shit load of away games we've never been to, shit load of cups we SHOULD win, possibility of actually winning games, goals goals goals, cheap to attend...

By the time we get there the Conference will have been renamed Premiership E, and will consist of ten teams: Manchester United E (1 & 2), Manchester City E (1 & 2), Arsenal E (1 & 2) and Chelsea E (1, 2, 3 & 4), all in fierce competition for the Greg Dyke Paint Trophy.

That's what everyone said when we went down before.

Load of tosh such as "I'll be happy if we stay up" - of course as soon we were outside the top two it was a disgrace that we hadn't walked away with the league.

Lets face it any manager who doesn't have us challenging for promotion is going to get dog's abuse and calls for him to be sacked will start about game 6 I reckon if things are not going well.

Had a similar thread going a month ago.

OK, so I for one think we are going down and I really dont care. The Championship is our level and I love the following about it:

More games to look forward to
London derbies we can actually win
Anyone can beat anyone
The play off's, being poor for 6 months and then great for 3 will get you into the Top 6!
Getting a chance to go to Wembley
Getting a chance to actually win at Wembley
More chance of blooding young players
Fairer league
Not always being able to predict the top 3
Did I mention Wembley?
Looking forward to cup games, incase we get a big team...and having no pressure on us to get anything from the game
Less tourists

You're probably right...

Although if the funds have really dried up, we sell off our main assets (Austin, Caulker, Phillips etc) and we are fielding a team of prem loans, youth players, a few vets (like Henry) and freebies - then i do think fans expectations will level out.

That's why i really want Warburton if we do go down - he will have a vast knowledge of the type of players we should be looking to sign from the lower leagues and cheap talent from abroad (looking at Brentford's team).

I like the idea of Clement the supercoach, but a man who has spent the last few years at Madrid is unlikely to have kept a close eye on up and coming strikers from League Two.
