Some one saying on WATRB that the Supreme court has thrown out the appeal placed against us and Warren Farm is a goer! Good news if true!

AND WHEN I DREAM , I DREAM ABOUT YOU AND WHEN I SCREAM I SCREAM ABOUT YOU!!!!!

OK, so we have won the legal battle.

However, is there any money around, any more? The plans were started when Tony was new and excited. 10 years later he is looking to get out of the ownership gig and may be less willing to front the club the millions necessary.

They've had ample opportunity in the last couple of years, post big money days, to pull out. Could have done it on the last couple of appeals, said it was taking too long, not worth the hassle, alternative sites being explored etc. It would be stupid even by QPR standards to fight through a five year legal battle and then go 'nah sorry we're not that fussed any more'.

Not saying that won't happen, but it would be very dumb.

Like everybody else very happy with the news, as Clive says the NIMBYs should be thankful that there not getting a housing estate or an industrial park, instead a football club who is going to invest in the local community and has an excellent track record of doing good work for charitable sources.

The fact it's been announced on the Offish so quickly is also good news, the Borad have been planning for this for a long time so the Billionaires club should be able to find the loose change. Tony has taken a back seat to concentrate on Air Asia but having Bhatia as Chairman should ensure that the project proceeds, I've always thought that they want this facility to improve the club and subsequently offer First Class facilities to help develop football in Asia.

Well the Club are stating on the official site that they will be investing "millions of pounds" so presumably it will go ahead. I hope that whatever money they do invest is not taken into account as FFP spending....!

I can't say for 100% but somebody quoted on here on another thread that Investment in Infrastructure like the training ground was outside of the FFP regulations, I am assuming they are correct because if it does impact FFP then I don't see how we can go ahead with the project, the fact it's on the Offish surely means the club are serious....

Seemed an odd quote to me as well. Presumably he's referring to the money we'll make renting pitches out etc, though millions would be a bit of a stretch on that. We will, long term, save a lot of money by not having to rent Harlington and the various youth facilities.

Isn't part of it importing fill to level the site. Perhaps we can make millions from that by taking other sites spoil but not enough to cover other costs.

The thing the Warren Farm lot have willfully ignored all the way through is that councils are absolutely stony broke. They've had government funding cut and cut and cut again to the point where they can't even do their basic, fundamental jobs.

Northamptonshire, flagship Tory council, has been allowed to go broke under a Tory government which would have been unthinkable at one point. Several others are effectively bust as well. They cannot even provide basic provisions like libraries (closing at a rapid rate) and bin collections any more - couple of councils in Wales have moved to collecting bins once a month, imagine that in the heat of the summer with a family of young kids. We've had a note through the door from Barnet this week saying they're ceasing some of our recycling bin collections and cutting back on others - and they've outsourced absolutely everything.

Sheffield, Newcastle, Bristol, several others, have chopped down literally thousands of trees because they can't afford to upkeep them any more. Park maintenance is being cut, or abandoned altogether, parkland is being sold off wherever they can.

If you think any council in this climate has a few million quid kicking around to bring you a lovely new sports pavilion like the one in Regents Park, and staff it, and maintain it, out of the public purse, when they can't even afford to collect your fcking bin, you're living in cloud cuckoo land. They should be grateful for this investment in a sports facility on a neglected site, could have been a big fck off Taylor Wimpey housing estate instead.

Not sure this is entirely accurate. Some councils struggling. But many others have been actively buying property investments in recent years.

All infrastructure, training and youth development spending is outside of FFP

I’ve always thought the millions Man City pump into this area is some sort of workaround and can be a bit of a cover.

Can someone tweet the main man and ask if I can break ground jointly with him either side of the shovel? I’ll take him for a bit of lunch afterwards and apologise for being wrong(ish) all along

Even if they were selling surely QPR having a state of the art training ground or even just having the rights to Warren farm, adds value to the club?

Yes that's a good point. Wasps had a training ground at Sudbury once.

I don't blame the SWF people for giving it a proper go. They've probably done enough to make sure that the site is protected for the forseeable future. It's great news that we have a new training ground - I just wouldn't like to think that the good news presents an easy opportunity for someone to concrete over the site sometime in the near future.

That’s because Wasps ground(it wasn’t a stadium), was on Vale Farm.

"10 years later he is looking to get out of the ownership gig and may be less willing to front the club the millions necessary".

Serious question, no sarcasm intended: Where do you get that idea from? He's stepped down as chairman but that is all, to the best of my knowledge.

That's not because they're not struggling, it's the opposite.

Borrowing restrictions were lifted, so a lot of councils have borrowed (on historically low interest rates) to invest in property, on the basis that the rental income from property will cover the interest payments and bring in cash to spend. (There's no other reason for e.g. Norwich council to buy property in Kent.)

Which is fine right up to the point that either interest rates go up or the tenant goes bust and stops paying the rent. Which is a tad worrying with the Bank of England only holding off on interest rises because they're sh*t scared of Brexit, and shopping centres and high streets collapsing.

No idea how they do it, but Hillingdon council have not raised council tax in 10 years, have won more green spaces awards than any other London Borough and we get household, recycling, green and kitchen waste collected separately, but all on the same day, all free - every week - & no wheelie bins either!

Just getting the team to a category 1 academy team will be of value as the rates for our youngsters goes up plus we can attract better youngsters for the same reason. Better youngsters means more profits in the long run. We've done pretty well as a category 2 team so the portents are good.

The grass is always greener.

I'm looking forward to us having decent facilities to build an Academy of choice. It will help us get decent players that we couldn't afford to buy because of FFP.

Of course, then you can pen another justified rant about the unfairness of big clubs being able to pick the gems out for a pittance.

Using capital reserves to generate income. They need the cashflow and poor practice to use reserves to top up lack of income. Commercial lets generate more per sq foot and easier to dispose of if out of their borough locality.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

Yep a very good service. However don't be fooled, despite the freeze it's still more expensive than most of neighboring councils. Essentially it was bloody extortionate 10 years ago.

I did like the dig from the council:

"I am confident that we have secured the best deal for local people at no cost to local council tax payers save for the legal costs spent defending the council’s decisions."

Just had our budget meeting with the Director in my South London LA and we've been told that the budget for the next two years based on central government funding, whilst again savings have to be made (most have already been identified in advance), things are looking ok - not as bad as first feared. However, after 2020, we and other boroughs are looking at a cliff edge situation.

The years of Austerity are far from over.
