Taking Mrs Hants to see Swan Lake on Tuesday (her big birthday - 3 line whip). So instead of the tears welling up in my eyes at LR it sounds like I'll be fighting them back as I watch guys prancing around the stage, without their strides. ðŸ˜

Heard this song many times without really paying much attention to the lyrics.
When I became a dad for the first time a few years ago I heard it again and it really hit home. Very sad song about what can happen. Sure, juggling a job and family is difficult but one cannot sacrifice the latter for the former.
Otis's last ever performance. He died the next day in a plane crash, on December 10th 1967 aged just 26.

Driving home early hours in the morning after seeing my 4 year old recovering from a life saving emergency operation and this song came on. Suffice to say i was a blubbering wreck.
I seem to have something in my eye.

Elgar's Nimrod - mentioned by the OP is indeed an achingly beautiful, plangent piece of music. I note that the Rangers sometimes play a repulsive pop record on the tannoy which uses the Nimrod theme as part of its opening.
