Amos and Clarke extend loans till end of season 10:42 - Jun 22 with 4966 viewsbosh67

I'd really like to see Clarke get a few minutes for us this season. I am sure there is a player in there given half a chance. I know it seems futile as he will go back to Spurs but given a chance to impress and find some confidence perhaps he would be loaned back to us next season. Having looked back at what he did at Leeds given a chance he really has some talent.

Never knowingly right.

And that wouldn't be good, LB.

I think he has been better recently in a more attacking role and If MW wants him, then that's fine with me.

I've been hugely disappointed with Amos.

But there's a big but. Technically, as a footballer, I don't think there's anything he cannot do - he can pass, he can tackle, he can run with the ball, he can shoot. He doesn't do any of those, at the moment, well enough or often enough. But he was coming back off a bad injury and it can take players - often does, especially younger ones - considerable time to overcome that.

I just feel like there's a player there. People say he's a standard PL Academy type, which is said so often now it's starting to become meaningless, but a year ago people were saying Bright had no end product, now they're going crazy we might sell him for £5m. Warbs can clearly see something, maybe in training or whatever, that he thinks he can work with. Not all good players are instant hits.

Bare bones.

Does the last para in the story suggest Leistner will be back with us, or is he out of contract now?

While I’m happy to trust Warburton’s judgement (not like I have a say in the matter) he’s been closer to a poor man’s Jason Jarrett.

Some people's expectations are too high.

To be fair to Amos, prior to him joining us he'd had 17 professional games, 16 of those for Stevenage in 2017/18 and a year off with injury.

Whilst he hasn't torn up any trees this season there's definitely a player in there, but at 23 he's desperately short of experience... this season will have done him the world of good. Just think of the difference one full season in the championship made to Eze... he came back this season much better than he was last season.

If we could sign him for less than 2 mil I'd bite, as I genuinely think he will turn into that box to box midfielder that you don't find very often these days.

I'd rather be signing the next Faurlin, not the next Cousins.

If we did sign him and pushed him up the park to replace Eze in the 3 of a 4231 then brought in some real quality for the 2, I'd be ok. But still think he's not good enough.

Got one year left but they didn't want to buy him so he's coming back unless we find a buyer or, more likely, release him on a free.

I think I read that he didn't want to come back to the UK, family reasons. Shame as I think we've missed him at times.

Isn't that exactly where he has been playing in the last few games. When Cameron and Ball are the two, we are stronger and Amos can play further forward.

Yeah to some extent I'm being somewhat persuaded only by the management's seemingly absolute conviction in him. Kinda grudgingly respect it tbh - thick skin and solemn patience aren't the worst attributes when developing players, especially at a club prone to hysteria such as we.

That said there are several players out there at MW's former clubs who he had a crush on and flattered to deceive under his perseverance, never amounting to much after he left. (Pretty sure Ramsey is equally responsible here though in fairness).

As far as the pampered academy poodle line goes it should at least be remembered that Stevenage fans held Amos in high regard only second to Chair (their best player ever supposedly).

It is also worth remembering that Dom Ball couldn't get in Rotherham's team and was written off by fans of his previous clubs etc. However, he has been a very decent signing, is still young and learning, has played very well at times and always gives 100%.

As for other ex Warburton players floating around, I think it has been said by Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand that only a small number of signings work out successfully.

I am hoping that Amos, if he is here, Ball, Barbet, Kane, Masterson and Kelly who all signed last summer, have had varying degrees of success but none have failed, will now kick on next season and continue to improve.

Good post. The unknowable is whether he pushes on or not. The truth is that a club in our position cannot go out and sign sure things, our finances mean we have to be looking for players that others don't want or aren't sure about. Depending on the asking price - and that is the real key - Amos fits that bill.

All that said, if we ended up selling Eze to Spurs for £15m + Amos then I'd be a very unhappy bunny.

I think it would be a big mistake signing Amos on the basis of what he has shown this season at times his body language is awful.
I know he is young but unfortunately he has attitude issues to bigger gamble for me.

Some good posts on here including this one but "at 23 he's desperately short of experience" is what people mean by "typical PL Academy player".

Ambivalent about Amos signing, I think there's a player there but not sure if we can get it out but I sure as sh*t don't want him included in a part exchange for Eze or BOS as we'll get absolutely raked over the coals.

I agree he needs stop the exasperation and pause when he loses possession. He needs more self confidence, understandable in a young player coming back from a serious injury. MW believes in him and should be able to get more consistency in his game.

Buying would be a risk, all transfers are, but if the fee and wages were affordable then maybe worth trying. If we take him on loan again and he has a good season his value could increase. He should benefit from all the playing time he had in 2019/20 and kick on next season, as I believe he has shown towards the end of this season. With the potential loss of BOS and Eze from our three attacking midfield places, a place is there for him if he can grab it.
