The theme to the Rockford Files has been my ringtone for several years. I loved that show.

Similarly Hill Street Blues was in a league of its own at that time.

I'd like to remind people that Morse was pretty good too.

As an oldie, I liked Softly Softly.

It paved the way for future shows & moved far away from Dixon. Stratford Johns was superb as DCI Barlow.

Me too and another one here for Columbo.
Also loved the Detectives.

In terms of characters, Columbo was the Don.

Loved Cagney and Lacey.

And let's not forget Midsomer Murders. That place has the highest ever murder rate in the UK.

Rockford Files is probably my favourite theme tune ever. The subtle interplay between the screeching keyboard and the bass. Genius. So many good ones from around that time too.

Another competitor, from the freelance world of crime solving, would obviously be:

They used to film it in Thame, where my in-laws live. Twinned with Raqqa.

It has to get a mention.

In the mid 80s, the coolest programme on TV was Miami Vice. I really cringe when I see photos of myself in my "themed" suit, but loved it at the time in my late teens.
