No betting companies allowed now.... so we've gone with an 'online casino' Mr Q.

https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/202

I know we need to sell off to the highest bidder, but this really upsets me

What's the difference between a gambling company than say, Oh I don't know, an alcohol such as Guinness?

Let me guess, no one bought that one either due to moral outrage?

The main difference between having Guinness and Mr Q is four decades, as Guinness stopped sponsoring QPR in 1986, 40 years ago - so about 13 years before our CEO was born. In those days, tobacco firms bought adverts in pop magazines for teenagers too.

I don't care who sponsors Rangers: booze, gambling, tobacco, the cartels of Mexico. We need money. Sainsburys are not sponsoring QPR . But the other difference between Guinness and Mr Q is style. Guinness are the absolute masters of marketing going back 100 years.

Their adverts, both print and then broadcast, have always been the best. The logo is beautiful. They made a very heavy black drink stylish, somehow, going back generations. Their QPR shirt just happened to be one of our best. Mr Q are not that. Their logo has already ruined the shirt of one of our close rivals.

But take the money where you can. If the shirt is beautiful and the team succeeds stylishly in it, then maybe in 40 years the club shop will be selling replica versions with Mr Q on it as it sells Guinness shirts still (Even though those geniuses at Guinness get that advertising for free).

As a huge percentage of replica shirts are worn by kids we should show a level of concern as to who the main sponsor is in my opinion.

I thought kids shirts were free from the gambling logo.

On the wider issue if its the best offer in town rhen why not take it. Yeh we could cull a development team space to save the money,.but what if that ypungster turns out to be an Eze or a Ferdinand 5 years later,? The same people will bemoan the fact.

Drafted an email to send to the club:

Dear QPR,

I am writing as a supporter to express my disappointment at the club’s new front‑of‑shirt partnership with online casino MrQ.

QPR should not normalise gambling through front‑of‑shirt sponsorship. I understand the commercial pressures on football clubs, particularly outside the Premier League, and that sponsorship income matters. But using a gambling company as the main shirt sponsor again feels like another step in the wrong direction for the club’s identity.

Football already has a difficult relationship with gambling. Supporters are surrounded by betting advertising, odds, promotions and casino brands across the game. For QPR to put an online casino on the front of the shirt adds to that environment and sends a message that this is something the club is comfortable promoting.

I was also particularly disappointed by the way the announcement was promoted on Instagram. The AI‑generated post showing the seats changed to read “MrQ” used the Stan Bowles Stand as a backdrop. Stan’s gambling addiction and the harm it caused him were open knowledge, and we renamed Ellerslie Road in his honour. Using that part of the ground as the visual setting for a casino advert felt, at best, insensitive.

It was also notable that such a significant decision about the club’s public identity was announced at 4pm on a Friday afternoon, a timing more often associated with minimising scrutiny of contentious news than with inviting engagement from supporters.

This is not just about whether the sponsorship is legally allowed. It is about what the club chooses to normalise, promote and attach to its identity.

I would also like the club to consider a practical alternative for supporters who do not want to wear gambling branding. Other clubs with gambling sponsors have offered sponsor‑free adult shirts, and football’s Code of Conduct for Gambling Related Agreements (clause 3.5.2) expects mechanisms that enable supporters to purchase adult replica kits without gambling sponsorship logos where they are not otherwise available. I would willingly pay an extra £5 for an adult shirt without the front‑of‑shirt sponsor, and I suspect I am not the only supporter who feels this way.

A sponsor‑free adult retail option would not undo the sponsorship deal, but it would show some respect for supporters who are uncomfortable advertising an online casino when they wear the shirt.

I would be grateful if the club could explain whether a sponsor‑free adult shirt option is being considered for the 2026/27 season and, more broadly, whether the club intends to move away from gambling companies as front‑of‑shirt sponsors in the future.

Great effort that.

In addition to sending it to the club there is also an online contact form you can use to send it to the Supporters Advisory Board:

Great idea - thanks.

Sent to the SAB:
I am writing as a QPR supporter to raise concern about the club’s new front-of-shirt partnership with MrQ Casino.

I understand the club needs commercial income, but I am disappointed that QPR has again chosen a gambling company as its main shirt sponsor. Football already has a difficult relationship with gambling, and putting an online casino on the front of the shirt further normalises it.

I was also particularly disappointed by the Instagram advert showing the seats changed to read “MrQ”. That stand is the Stan Bowles Stand. Given Stan’s well-known history with gambling, using that part of the ground as the visual setting for a casino advert felt insensitive and poorly judged.

I would like the SAB to raise two points with the club:

First, what consideration was given to the supporter, ethical and reputational implications of using a gambling sponsor?

Second, will the club offer adult supporters the option to buy a sponsor-free shirt? I would willingly pay an extra £5 for a shirt without the gambling sponsor, and I suspect other supporters would too.

This would not undo the sponsorship deal, but it would show respect for fans who are uncomfortable advertising an online casino when wearing the shirt.

That's mental.

Why don't clubs band together and make them in house?

There's a massive mark up for Nike etc of course. But there's also a massive amount of logistical stuff that goes into getting a product to market it's not just mock something up on MS Paint and then whack it on the website. Companies that do this do it for a living and while they unarguably take an unreasonable share of the profit, a couple of interns from football league clubs don't have the logistical knowledge, contacts, experience or supply chain to make it happen

The irony of promoting a gambling company in the Stan Bowles stand is not lost on me.
Stan who struggled with it big time back in the day .
Needs must I suppose.

What are you talking about? Stan loved his gambling, NEVER expressed any regrets or remorse about his life-long hobby and certainly wouldn't want YOU tossing his name into this thread overrun with pearl-clutching posts about a firm that lawfully and legally trades in the UK sponsoring our shirt.

I don’t know if you know any addicts (which is what Stan described himself as) but I can tell you from experience that you shouldn’t necessarily believe them when they tell you they don’t have a problem.

I’m sure nobody on here needs a reminder about Stan’s life, but the idea that gambling didn’t have a negative impact on him is one of the more ridiculous things I’ve read on here.

Completely agree that advertising this arrangement in the stand named after him adds to the overall sense of extremely poor taste around the whole thing.

Gambling addiction a hobby?
Mr Q might be a legit business, but that shouldn't stop people questioning the morality of it, especially if they've seen first hand the damage gambling can course. I know most responsible adults can have a little flutter here and there, but there's plenty of cases where its gets out of hand and courses a lot of grief for families.

Don't worry lads, I met Tony Bloom at the weekend and asked him if he can sort us some Brighton loanees for next season. All gratis natch.

As an aside he knew of Lee Hoos but had no idea who Nourry was (and funnily enough thought 28 years old was bit young to be a football CEO...).

I wonder if we as fans have enough collective cash to buy out that sponsorship deal and get it replaced with the Grenfell Foundation charity.

Say 20,000 supporters, fans, friends and family donated on average £20 each. Would that be enough?

If there was enough interest I would love to be able to help make something like that happen.
Eliminates the need for us to be associated with another gambling company. Promotes a worthy and local cause and on a smaller level makes the shirt look a lot better and will give supporters a lot more pride to wear them. In fact, it would probably increase sales of the shirt fairly substantially. So the club benefits from this financially too.

The main front-of-shirt sponsors for the 2025/26 campaign include:

Arsenal: Emirates (Airline)
Aston Villa: Betano (Gambling)
Bournemouth: bj88 (Gambling)
Brentford: Hollywoodbets (Gambling)
Brighton & Hove Albion: American Express (Banking/Finance)
Chelsea: IFS (AI & Enterprise Software)
3Crystal Palace: NET88 (Gambling)
Everton: Stake.com (Gambling)
Fulham: SBOTOP (Gambling)
Liverpool: Standard Chartered (Banking)
Manchester City: Etihad Airways (Airline)
Manchester United: Snapdragon (Technology/Qualcomm)
Newcastle United: Sela (Events/Entertainment)
Nottingham Forest: Bally's Corporation (Gambling)
Tottenham Hotspur: AIA (Insurance)
West Ham United: BoyleSports (Gambling)
Wolverhampton Wanderers: DEBET (Gambling)

Hardly unusual, however i read 2026/27 premier league season, gambling firms are temporarily banned from front of shirt sponsors, voted for by the clubs, but for one season only

Is it any worse than alcohol sponsors - like our iconic "Guinness" shirt ?

People with addictions in both, its a real issue, people who do both as occasional hobbies who know when to stop, its not. We are a money operating business, and if everyone else does it, i guess i understand.

i dont neccessarily agree with it myself also on moral grounds - strange that tobacco sponsors completely eliminated now also yet gambling ones amazingly common.

Football is a dirty money sport anyhow.

I think a clever move by Nourry is being heavily linked with tech companies and particularly AI, its where the next billionaire businesses will be.

Would not be surprised that all the gambling firms will then be replaced by AI sponsors. Again, you could say "dirty money" again, as there will be many darker aspects of AI, that will negatively affect the world and business, but football operates totally on ridiculous money systems, now so i understand the sponsorship choices without liking them in anyways

Playing a devil's advocate... The following products should all be banned from football shirts...

Alcohol... In case you become an alcoholic
Tobacco related... Potentially leads to lung cancer
Vape related .. unknown but likely to lead to future lung problems
Gambling ... In case you become a gambling addict
High sugar foods .... Can potentially make you obese
Airlines ..... World polluting the atmosphere
Beef related products.... Responsible for increasing CO2 emissions
Animal products.... Responsible for causing animal suffering

Not specifically aimed at you 😁

But you have to draw the line somewhere.

I take your point, but isnt gambling a vice ?
And I guess some people might have an issue if Mcdonalds sponsored us.
Drinking , smoking, gambling, drug taking, pornography . All of it considered ok by some and not ok by others.
Ive got two good mates, who's lives were completely messed up because of gambling. Also my brother in law has serious issues with it.
I had another mate, who took his own life sadly, and one of his biggest battles along with drugs, was gambling.
Look, I dont have a problem with people gambling if thats what they want to do, I just think, as a football club in the community, it has a responsibility. Promoting online gambling isnt a responsible thing to do. IMHO.

As far as I'm aware alcohol, tobacco, vapes and sugar are already prohibited, which possibly undermines your point a bit.

It's also perfectly legal to sell knives, shotguns, medicinal cannabis and pornography in the UK. Are we saying we'd be fine with having one of those as our sponsor, if they offered us more money than anyone else? At what point in that process should non-financial considerations kick in?

Completely agree that you have to draw the line somewhere. For me, when it comes to gambling, the club and the EFL are clearly on the wrong side of that line.

Mr Q (betting)
Copybet (betting)
Convivia (property developers)
Ashville (construction)
Football Index (betting)
BetUK (betting)
Royal Panda (betting)
Smarkets (betting)

I know sponsorship is about bringing as much cash in as possible, but can’t help feeling like that’s a deeply unedifying run for a supposedly community-led club.

I totally agree.
Somehow I don’t think it is worth more than a small 6 figure sum each season. And given the club loses more than £15m each year it hardly seems worth letting a gambling site devalue the club’s family and community image. Surely a more wholesome sponsorship deal worth half of what Mr Q is paying would be a better fit.

And yes, it is only the EPL that has banned gambling shirt sponsors so far.
In my view that are as bad as the alcohol and tobacco sponsorship.

Except a lot of the things on that list ARE banned and the rest aren't plastered absolutely all over the sport trying to tempt people into an addicting tendency / taking advantage of people that already have one. They might be more or less dangerous but they're not completely synonomised with football.

https://www.itv.com/news/2025-

"During the match between Wolverhampton and Manchester City, gambling adverts and logos were at their highest, totalling 5,262 - an average of 22 per minute."

That is completely outrageous, exploitative and dangerous in anyone's book, surely? And we're doing our little bit to encourage it. But that's ok because of money? Distasteful is an understatement.
