So the owner wrote off a £90 million loan to the club.Couldn’t our owners do the same if they wanted to?

This seems strange to me. Why aren't all owners doing this? In effect, it's still the owner splashing out for players and that's regulated by P&S rules.

Mind you, our owners constantly convert their £2m per month, or whatever it is, that covers our shortfall, into equity.

Harrison Ashby has gone to Luton. I had completely totally absolutely forgotten about him and he was only with us just over a year ago.

£24 million in yearly losses is a bit different to £90 million to buy a whole host of new players, especially if the gamble pays off and they get promoted again.

The interesting part is 50% of Stoke income is from commercial operations. Fair play to them if that’s the case, it’s a shrewd move. Clubs will be wise to use this avenue under the new rules otherwise our 18000 capacity stadium will seriously undermine us.

I saw Cook go to Wycombe, how are these smaller clubs paying the wages?
Or, are the players we had as our top earners suddenly taking 80% pay cuts?

If you're out of contract it's not a pay cut. Whatever you get is an infinite increase on zero.

So, it sort of confirms that QPR were paying way over the market value in wages for those two players, if circumstances dictate that the best they can get is where they've ended up.

Maybe Cook is motivated by a future coaching position? Not sure about Hayden

How are you deducing that?

We don't know their wages in either case and these are players near the end of their careers when physical capabilities can decline rapidly. The other factor might be length of contract; a Championship club might offer such a player a year, which for the player might not be preferable to a longer contract on lower wages.

I'm guessing none of us really know the actual amounts, but if Steve Cook and Hayden were amongst our top earners last season then that puts them at what £30k per week, maybe?

So, maybe £1.5m p.a. on the payroll ea?

I love Steve Cook, think he was great for us, Hayden not so much, but if no other Champ club was offering close to this, meaning that the players had to drop to a lower division, then this tells me that QPR were overpaying wages, like we did with Mac Bonne.

Still if these guys can get 3 years at £10k per week, then they will be better off, as they will pay less tax I guess.

I was hoping the club had stopped handing out silly contracts, but maybe Cook was signed by Ainsworth when we were desperate on one of those year on year increasing deals, so maybe thats all finished with now?

That is a great point.

The pro football jungle drums still have the club depicted as a circus, clueless and where the urine can be extracted.

Yeah, Hayden signed a two-year deal with an option for a third. Nobody above L1 is offering that for a 31-year old with his appearance history.

He'll be on 250k a year, for at least 24 months, gets to stay in London at a good club close to where he grew up and played at AFC academy, and can do his badges no doubt at same time. Good luck to him, great end to a career. Not sure why it's an opportunity to bash QPR, as you say we've no idea his contract at Rangers.

Hayden has made phenomenal money in his career for a bloke who hasn’t achieved a lot nor has much ability. Orient is local enough to be more appealing than a Championship offer up north he may have got for a bit more dough. Nothing against the guy but I’m not expecting it to go brilliantly and he’ll retire young.

Orient have been spending reasonably big money for a club of their size and their American owner has just been ousted from the Fubo business he founded so be interesting to see what goes on there.

Cook was brought in when we were in danger of getting relegated.
He was clever and put an extra year on his side based on appearances. He played so well over 2 years that he managed to get appearances for that extra year, but by then his legs were gone for the Champ (despite still being a really good player).

I would guess, with no evidence, that he was on £20K per week. And now I would guess he's dropped down to £5K per week. Yes, the drop-off is very large for players when they get old; hence, they want to rinse it before then. Good deal for Wycombe as I suspect he can do a great job there.

Which brings us to Hayden. Had a great season helping us out and then went to Pompy and helped them stay (after all, who can be worse than Dozy). And of course we made the mistake of not signing him for that season. So, last season we signed him after the window (probably gets him on the cheap, I would guess £15K per week). But his legs had totally gone by then and he knew it. This time we were smart and only did a 1-year deal. So, off to Orient, who seem to be splashing the cash and he's been smarter this time and got a 2-year deal.

zzzzzzzzzz
