| Vale of Tears 19:01 - Oct 18 with 4055 views | Jules4367 | I am getting more and more frustrated with Mr Vale. Yes, he has now scored a goal and I expect everyone will say how good he is but he consistently ranks low or is bottom on performance assessments. Why? Clearly he has ability but something appears to be lacking or am I being unfair? Whenever there is a failed tackle that lets the opposition through on goal, a miss hit pass, a pass to nowhere or a useless cross from a free kick or corner or a shot that goes way way over the bar at the opposite end of the pitch (and my eyes at that distance cannot see who it was) I now ask the people around me, was that Vale again? and they simply shrug their shoulders as f to say 'of course' and nod! What is anyone saying to him after such performances? I looked up the meanings of 'Vale' and it says "a long low depression between high points" and Latin for "Good bye!" (note that is Good bye NOT Good BUY!) I really want him to do well but somehow it seems to be taking far far too long for hm to correct the things that a lot of people who rate the players can see him doing week in week out! Yes, he DID score a goal on Wednesday but, on balance, does he do more to help the team or hinder? | | | | |
| Vale of Tears on 19:37 - Oct 18 with 2781 views | CamberleyR | He clearly has got technical ability as evidenced by his assist for Chair at Portsmouth on the opening day which was a great bit of skill but he doesn't impose himself on games enough, too often going missing especially away from home. It also doesn't help that not many of us know what his best position is. | |

| Vale of Tears on 20:21 - Oct 18 with 2597 views | FDC | I may have misheard but on the latest W12 podcast I think Jack said that Vale had the highest goal involvements in the team in 2026... Which seems remarkable so perhaps I did mishear! | | | |
| Vale of Tears on 20:27 - Oct 18 with 2582 views | nix | It’s the going missing, particularly defensively that annoys me. When we get good defensive numbers it’s a lot to do with players further up the pitch putting the effort in. I’m not sure if it’s partly his lack of pace, so he gets caught higher up the pitch and can’t get back to defend. I still think he could be more involved and I’d like him to develop that part of his game. He’s also suffered a bit from our wastefulness in front of goal. Taking figures from another player: Finn Azaz: he’s created six big chances and got five assists. Vale has created five big chances and got one assist. Obviously we notice assists more than promising passes that CTN. | | | |

It's got to be difficult to build form when the players around you are dropping like flies. Managing his body is probably why he still fit to play. Lets give him the season.

| Vale of Tears on 23:48 - Oct 18 with 2193 views | numptydumpty | As for Vale. He is still very young. Further ahead of schedule than Adamson was at his age. I think he will get better. Has a lot of qualities, but room for improvement, which I think he has it in him to do so... | |

| Vale of Tears on 23:50 - Oct 18 with 2196 views | bosh67 | He does play some very clever 'small' passes in build ups to goals and moves that I think a lot of people miss. Like a number of our players who returned from serious injuries I think there is sometimes a sub-conscious aspect where he seems to protect himself from certain situations where another player would commit to a tackle. Remember this is a player that came to us, and that we kind of took a gamble on, with a broken back! Let's not forget that or that even after that he's a very decent player, and that he's only just turned 23. | |

Do we know how he broke his back - very unusual if that was done on a football field, Bosh.

| Vale of Tears on 08:23 - Oct 19 with 1744 views | gazza1 | If we are pressing for a 'play-off' place then Vale should not be starting whenever he is fit. He has started, near on, every match this season. He has played most of his football, and that is not much, outside of Championship standard football. Basically, he should be a squad player, at best, if the Club has any ambition. I fail to see why Mr JS, the Manager, starts him ahead of several players so often, started 9 out of 12 this season and he was injured for two of the matches, the other at Blackburn he was sub. More strange stuff from our Manager!!! | | | |
| Vale of Tears on 09:15 - Oct 19 with 1588 views | stevec | Had a lot of time for him when he arrived. As mentioned above, I doubt if you asked him his best position whether he’d even really know himself. Madsen Edwards Kamara when we play three across centre mid looks good, suggesting he’d be a sub in that set up. At home, if we play two CDM, then he’s been okay on the right (suspect his goals/assists count is way better than Poku, for instance) but away from home, he isn’t so efficient. Sub away, starter at home for now. He’s a good player but needs to show a bit more metal now, it’s the Championship, not carpet football at Chelsea. | | | |

Tell me......how will you tell Vale that he isnt going to play away matches but you will play at home!!!! And how will you tell the player who played away that he isnt playing at home next week. Abosolute nonsense, I have read some nonsense on the MB but that one is 'top of the tree'!!!!.

Well personably I’d have put Varane in and packed the midfield. I guess other option was playing 2 up front. But I doubt anything would have made a difference on Saturday. Be interesting to see whether Vale starts next 2 games. I would like to see Saito given a run of games in the attacking central mid role behind the striker.

The only issue, not the end of the world, would be that you were playing 3 defensive type midfielders (Varane, Edwards & Kamara) and limited attacking from the centre of the pitch. I may have started Saito in the advanced CM player. If he didn't start, I certainly would have introduced Saito a lot earlier than he was on Saturday.

| Vale of Tears on 15:21 - Oct 19 with 1013 views | kensalriser | Somewhat reminiscent of numerous conversations about Paul Smyth a couple of years ago. Vale isn't yet at 50 Championship appearances (although contrary to Gazza's assertion, he has played more Champ games than any other pro level), so maybe we should give him a little leeway before making him scapegoat of the season. | |

Madsen was available, sitting playing noughts & crosses apparently sitting on the bench!!!

I hear you, but he wasn't picked so he was unavailable to take set pieces. I'm sure you get my point.
