Obviously inspired by the current Shroedinger's player, Justin Obikwu.
Players who were signed ostensibly for the senior squad but never played (so the likes of youth players like the infamous Shimmin and Hislop are ruled out).
Number one is incontestably Richard Ord. Two years without a single appearance, never again played another minute of professional football.
Ned Zelic is also a shoe in, a club record signing who made four appearances. At least he was gone relatively quickly.
Signed from Man Utd by Tommy Doc at exactly the same time as Gary Micklewhite was in the summer of 1979.
Apparently made two appearances at the end of the 79/80 season. Hung about until 1981 without playing again when he was given a free transfer to Sydney Olympic where he stayed five years.
USA international centre half Oguchi Onyewu and Uruguay international Javier Chevanton - both brought in under Rosie the dog's owner during the 2013-14 season. Chaventon managed two substitute appearances whilst Onyewu was an unused sub on several occasions.

Rio Ferdinand has to be a shout here? Signed for a 3-5-2 then immediately abandoned when we decided that actually we were going 4 at the back after all

IIRC we signed Clarke from Wednesday the same day we signed Jamie Mackie. Plymouth fans were all over the forums wishing Mackie all the best while Owls fans couldn't wait to see the back of Clarke.
Another from that season was Troy Hewitt, signed from Harrow Borough where he was scoring for fun. No appearances in two years with us before joining Walsall where his career fizzled out.
We signed a CB from Sheff Wed a Div 1 side called Vic Mobley back in the 1960's......a very decent CB. Paid very good money for him back in the day. We were in Div 2.
Played only a few games for us and had to retire with knee problems, shame really because many supporters were expecting big things from him.

Genuinely amazed that Zelic only made four appearances. One boiled, one scambled, one fried and one Eggs Benedict.
I saw him play one of those at Goodison on a miserable evening. I think the pie sellers showed more interest!
Wasn't there a story that Kevin Gallen asked him something along the lines of: what's Australia like to break the ice? Zelic allegedly replied, in a dismissivetone tone, 'Go and see for yourself!'

Troy Hewitt.
That's a winner, Shirley, Kensal.
Raise you with, Leroy Griffiths.
Scored a cracker against Chelsea in a PSF, not sure he played for the 1st team. Upon signing he said: 'I want to be in the Champions League within five years!' I do hope FIFA 2003 was a successful purchase for the lad.

I remember seeing him score a cracker away at Blackpool in a midweek 2-2 draw
Edit he scored two that night
