Final play-off spot 17:23 - Feb 19 with 15877 viewsNorthernr

As I've been researching it for the preview may as well put the full lot on here. Here are the points accumulated and the games lost by the team finishing sixth in this league since 92/93.

-Highest it's been is 80, lowest is 68, average is 73.6.
- Most number of defeats is 16, least is 10. We've already lost 10.
- Only five times has the team from sixth won promotion, which rather ruins the idea that the team that crashes in with a late run of form often fairs best.
- QPR are currently tracking at 59 points for the season
- To get to the 74 point mark we'd need 38 points from our remaining 18 games, more than 2 a game.

19/20 - Swansea 70, 12
18/19 - Derby 74, 12
17/18 - Derby 75, 11
16/17 - Fulham 80, 10
15/16 - Sheff Wed 74, 10
14/15 - Ipswich 78, 12
13/14 - Brighton 72, 12
12/13 - Leicester 68, 16
11/12 - Cardiff 75, 9
10/11 - Forest 75, 11
09/10 - Blackpool 70, 14, Promoted
08/09 - Preston 74, 14
07/08 - Watford 70, 12
06/07 - Southampton 75, 13
05/06 - Palace 75, 12
04/05 - West Ham 73, 15 Promoted
03/04 - Palace 73, 15, Promoted
02/03 - Forest 74, 12
01/02 - Norwich 75, 15
00/01 - West Brom 74, 14
99/00 - Bolton 76, 12
98/99 - Bolton 76, 10
97/98 - Sheff Utd, 74, 10
96/97 - Palace, 71, 13, Promoted
95/96 -Leicester, 71, 13, Promoted
94/95 - Barnsley 72, 14 (play offs only to fifth that year, Barnsley finished 6th)
93/94 - Derby 71, 15
92/93 - Leicester, 76, 14

I'd have put money on that being the first reply.

Right, that's it. Now the wheels will immediately fall off. Expect no wins in the next six or so, a mass outbreak of sweaty arse, and with luck, safety by game 45. Thanks, Clive, thanks a lot - does getting the moany naysayers back on the site mean that much to you that you'd sell the Rs for a mess of pottage? Tables are made to be looked down at.

Can we just get to 50 points first, then we can talk all we like about dreaming of the play offs!

For argument’s sake, let’s assume we had played the postponed Wycombe and Rotherham games and won. We’d have 42 points, which is 7 behind Bournemouth.

Let’s assume we then beat Bournemouth tomorrow; that’s 4 points off 6th.

...this’ll age well I’m sure 🙄

Had a look on Oddschecker... 35/1 relegation, 66/1 top six, 200/1 promotion (best prices- most firms were considerably skinnier so if anyone is mad enough to back it then shop around).

I think it's gonna be lower than the avergae this season,
teams are taking points off each other left right and centre and home/away doesn't really matter now

Realistically for us I would say top 10 would be a fantatsic achievement and gives us something to build on for next season but it would be great to be in with a shout with 6 games to go or something

Last three 2nd place teams had 83,89 and 90 points. If we win all of our remaining games, we will be on 90 points, so should go up automatically.

This is why I love this message board. A fortnight ago we were in the sht because for some reason the third bottom team was going to suddenly post 55, 56, 57 points for the first time ever. Now the team finishing sixth is going to get way lower than usual.

I think it's gonna be like that year where on the last day of the season half the division can go down and half can get in the play offs

Not at the 56-58 point level, Clive, but broadly that does make sense.

An even league will see a higher safety total and a lower play off total requirement. They go hand in hand to a degree.

Case in point: the year Peterborough went down on 54 points was the year Leicester made the play offs on 68.

Wasn't there a league (eastern European, I think) which was so close that on the last match day half the teams could have been champions, and half could have been relegated? Can't find it now.

It's the hope that kills you.

Realistically w e're not going to get to top 6 nor are we anywhere near going down

Would be great to break through the 60 point mark with more of the younger players getting a good number of games under their belts, e.g. Kakay, Willock, Field, putting us in a position where we can threaten the top 6.

As long as we are in a shout for top 6 rather than bottom 3 that would be a result

16 games in next 9 weeks is a tough ask.

Reckon if we hit 50 points by end of March we’d call it a day for this season.

It's a great point about the Peterborough and Leicester weirdos being the same season. But eight teams in this league are currently tracking well below 55 points this season, is it realistic that five of them are all suddenly going to sort their sht out?

It's quite simple maths...if we win all of our remaining games, we'll probably make the playoffs. Hope this helps...no thanks neeeded...etc etc.
