Met him tonight my god he looks about 100 ! Really shocked to see him looking like that but his passion for the rss still shines through to this day. Also got a glimpse of everyone’s favourite swear box Barry Fry waddling down SAR .

Poll: Now it’s slightly clearer cut who do you want as manager ?

Superb player John Gregory, bit of a journeyman starting off at Northampton Town, Aston Villa and Brighton before Venables signed him at 27 in 1981. His career really took off at Rangers leading to a couple of England caps at the age of about 30. Loved watching him in that midfield in the early 80s on our plastic pitch.

Always thought he was a decent manager for us.
Never understood why others slated him as he had a tough situation and he kept us up and motivated the team.

zzzzzzzzzz

This could be a trick question, Baz.

As in he could have played against an all English XI?

Sorry to be very specific 😂

John Gregory was the manager of Aston Villa in 1999 where he was the manager of the last all English XI (as in the whole of his side was born in England).

He would have been if that bent bastard Clive White hadn't ruled out a perfectly good equaliser for Micklewhite...

If memory serves, it would have been an equaliser at the time.

Aside of a breakaway when Archibald, possibly a slimline but early signs of being a pontificating fook, Crooks hit a post, we were murdering them in the second half. You had a feeling that if we could equalise, we might well go on to get a second.

I still remember my dad's face when JG hit the crossbar. It had a sad and somewhat resigned look of: 'it ain't happening tonight son!'

Incredible to think that it will be 40th anniversary next year.
