Appeal for witnesses 15:58 - Nov 20 with 17343 viewsHadders

I know it's mentioned on at least one other thread, but perhaps this appeal for witnesses could be stuck to the top of the forum so that it gets seen by everyone coming on here. I suggest we hold back speculation about what happened and just hope that the man pulls through and justice is done. https://news.met.police.uk/news/seriously-injured-man-found-after-qpr-v-luton-ma

Appeal for witnesses on 19:53 - Nov 20 by BrianMcCarthy

You misunderstood my post. Maybe it was my fault. My point was that the Luton rivalry is not on the pitch, it's between thugs.

I was born in England, born a Rangers fan, brought up in Ireland, moved back to England in '85. I now - as you point out - live in Ireland.

I lived in England during all the years that the Luton rivalry started and was at its height. I was a season ticket holder every year I lived there and I rarely missed an away game. I never missed a Luton trip.

In the years that mattered I also became a Luton member so, like many other Rangers fans, I could beat the away ban. I went to every Luton away game, ban or not, and on one occasion I saw a ten-year old girl's face after it was carved up by Luton fans.

I've been to games.
I go to games.
Virtue Signalling? I have no idea what that phrase means.

Edit - just reread my original post. It was badly worded. Apologies.

This thread has taken a unnecessary turn. Good luck to man in hospital wether he asked for it or not.

I was on the supporters coach that had the windows smashed on the way to the cup game in the 80’s,and going there anytime wasn’t a pleasant experience in those days, but nobody deserves to get seriously injured watching a game of football.
I hope he makes a full recovery, and the hotheads on both sides calm down and realise that isn’t a war,but a game of football.

A Rangers fan was stabbed and nearly died at Luton many years back, I guess that's a lot to do with it.

Correctamundo Colin, that's when the normal football agg stepped up and has, as another poster mentioned, turned this fixture into a very serious affair for the respective police forces, which brings me back to why in gods name was it allowed to be played on a Friday? When will the Shepherds Bush Old Bill 'cop' on that you hold certain teams' followers back after the friggin final whistle!

Didn’t a fan get a baggage trolley on his head at KX some years ago?

It arguable that Luton are our biggest rivals as its mutual and everyone we hate doesn't care about us and the only team who hates us except for them is Brentford and its one sided. The biggest moments in the Luton rivalry was the FA Cup match in 1987 and the St Pancras battle later that year. However, it had already been a consistently violent match for a number years and was boiling before '87.

It's also very arguable that QPR vs Luton is the most violent fixture in English football because of the amount of serious trouble at most fixtures. Some may point to Millwall vs West Ham but significant trouble at those matches is few and far between due to the policing.

Kenilworth Road in the 80s was trouble for any QPR fan regardless of whether they were there for a fight or not. It was the same for any Luton fan at Loftus Road too during the same period. Things did get better for 'scarfers' and they seldom get caught up with the trouble at those matches now but it's safe to say that the next few years against Luton have the potential to return to previous levels.

Apparently it’s against health and safety rules to keep the away fans in the ground after the game, but how can it be any less safe than fighting other fans on the streets outside?

What part of that do you disagree with or claim to be factually incorrect.

Genuinely interested.

You can't, but you can plan for them.

The club won't allow fans to be kept behind incase they smash the away end and the Police don't want to escort away fans down the SAR after we've all left in case they get ambushed via the White City Estate.

Neither is an insurmountable problem.

Invoice rival club for damages and escort away fans down Ellersie , Swindon Road and back streets to Shepherd's Bush Hammersmith and City Line.

The cost of someone's life is more than we should be paying.

Where's everyone I know from all ages absolutely hate Luton and none are violent

Maybe it's because we actually go to games and not sit in an ivory tower virtue signaling in Ireland

I've been round England and to Sweden following Rangers, and Brian was there.
He's not virtue signalling, just a genuine good man who always tries to think the best of people.

I could be a bit of a shit at times.

That's a bit harsh on Brian.

I don't think it's virtual signalling to not agree with hatred to the extent it leads to violence.

Surely no one wants to return to the bad old days of football violence?

This guy is in a coma and probably a chance that he will die.

No Luton fans will know who the attacker is but some Rangers fans will.

If you do, then please do the right thing.
