Stoke Match Thread 00:47 - Apr 23 with 20751 viewsBoston

I'm pottering around tomorrow. Much of the morning will be spent wrapping a job and moving equipment to the next victim's work site.

But, ever vigilant and a radio aficionado...I shall be there, on the airwaves.

The roll continues, Stoke 1 - Queens Park Rangers 2.

Poll: Thank God The Seaons Over.

Lacking urgency and sharpness. Too often sloppy in possession.

Poor half, and Stoke deserve their lead I'm afraid.

We just had a throw in in line with their box, and threw it backwards into our half and then passed it back to our keeper. WHAT IS THE F*CKING POINT?!

Load the box up. Get Lyndon to lob it in there?!?

No Chuck it towards our goal and concede.

To be fair, we do not have the personnel for the formation. We don't have any wingbacks, any wingers, or any speed up front. There is literally no channel to take the ball forward. The windy conditions mean that route one football isn't going to work. Also, having no speed or skill up front means that there wouldn't be anyone on the end, anyhow.

I think at this stage it's down to the system though DP.

Field can be instructed to take a risk by looking to pass forward, and he'll have the advantage of them expecting him to go back every time.

Dozzell can pass, Amos has pace so does Thomas.

Dykes isn't a hold up man but can mix it if it's hit nearish to him. McCallum isn't being used at all last 25 mins.

It's all so turgid. I bet they come out 2nd half with this second half 'front foot' bollocks. Again. Like we shouldn't have been on that from minute 1 in our fcuking situation.

And there's the goal. These travelling supporters deserve far more than this.

F*cking pathetic. Sh*t half, Rangers. From everyone bar Westwood.

Taxi for Warburton? The performances are more concerning to me than the results (awful as they are) - at the moment. He just doesn't seem to be able to get a tune out of these players anymore. Frustrating and perplexing in equal measures.

Such a dull half of football, thought I was watching WBA for a bit. Then got hit right at the end. Sanderson is looking utterly dreadful today, might be pushing his Peterborough performance here.

What happened to passion? Belief? Pride?
They couldn’t seem to care less
Do oppo teams have a hypnotist?
How soon do pro footballers need to place their towels? Can’t they afford someone to do it for them?
What a horrendously pathetic end to a season.

Summed it up hasn't it, and then go 1-0 down a few minutes later.

Got to go for it second half. Nothing to lose.

So that'll be Hendrick on for Amos after 65 minutes...

what typified that performance for me was when we had a throw in halfway into their half and Sanderson's first choice was to throw it back for Dunne who was immediately put under pressure.

Only Chair , Thomas and Dykes seem to have any forward intent, everyone else the default is to pass it backwards .. its so frustrating.

We can be such a negative team, why

Why don"t we give it a go?

Playing like we are, it:s certain we are going to give goals away.

Lets hope in the second half MW tells the players to be more positive.

That was coming ! Can’t keep giving the ball away every time we get it under pressure.
We are so slow , as soon as we have possession , Stoke fall back and put everyone behind the ball and we have nowhere to go other than hopefull lumps that go straight to Stoke players
We have given the ball back to them every throw we have taken other than when we throw it back to our defenders .
Their defence look shakey as fcuk with the ball on the deck but we are not even getting near them
Slow crab football not going to get you many goals or chances in the oppo half!
Needs a change of tactic as they have our card marked and now 1 nill up as well

For a must win game - there doesn't seem to be much urgency to get forward to try and score.

If Warburton can't lift them for a game like this then we need to make changes.

Let's hope for some attacking intent in the second half and some goals (for us)

Strange approach to a must win game, scared of losing rather than being brave enough to win. Thomas working hard to a win a throw in high up the pitch only for it to go all the way back towards Westwood 5 seconds later was pretty demoralising.

Warburton has to own this as he was visibly pointing to play backwards when there an opportunity to go forward so he front changed arms and pointed up the pitch because he realised there was space to attack. Ok to get it wrong but it is the overall tone and messaging that isn’t right.

I think Warburton should stay but it could this sort of negative approach that finally does for him. Forget all the technical and tactical BS, sometimes football is more about desire and intent, both of which have been sadly missing.

Come on you R’s!!!

Its not a new thing though. Our default possition for a few years now is to pass back. Dont know the stats for sure but id put money on Dunne, Barbet and Dickie having more possession than all the other players used this season added together.

Sanderson is seriously lacking in football intelligence. He plays people in to trouble regularly, or just lobs it aimlessly.
