It's time for my annual rugby league diss! I know, I know, you guys, Clive especially, love it but I genuinely cannot see the attraction for the game, I enjoy the Union game despite my humble origins, but league just seems so attrional, dour and boring. Lots and lots of players running at each other, and watched by very small crowds! Respectfully, your facile rugby league remarks to which you are entitled, speak volumes. If league is "attritional", I'm struggling to find a suitable adjective to describe the slow, stop, start nature of rugby union, ball out of play for eons, scrum re-sets aplenty and the vastly inferior fitness levels and lower-grade handling skills and dexterity of union players.
As for "low crowds" dream on. In the UK, the average crowds in both codes are nearly identical. I recently read an article stating that 7 out of 10 premier rugby union clubs, in the absence of wealthy benefactors, would not be financially viable.
You clearly have no insight of the thriving rugby league behemoth in Australia: the NRL, where the crowds at virtually every club comfortably exceed the average gates of union sides with the biggest ground capacities in the UK. For reference, union in Australia is now the poor relations of the two codes. [Post edited 20 Mar 22:27]

SuperLeague players are game as anything, but the skill and imagination that NRL players produce under conditions of extreme peril are mind-boggling. It’s the pinnacle of the sport, just incredible to watch. | | | |

I picked the Roosters as my team because my son chose the Rabbits but I don’t really have a deep commitment. Like with American college football I like being able to just enjoy the spectacle and the brilliance without any anxious personal investment. I have got a cousin though who moved from Acton to Newcastle with her husband and is now a big Knights fan! | | | |

He’s a quality player, not explosive as used to be but smart & great team player.
Been really good back at Warriors & can cover a few positions.
Interviews here suggest he’s after new experience for him/family & doubt just there for pay cheque.

Not sure it will have made press up there but Craig Bellamy just gone public with neurodegenerative disease- seeing season out but clearly a shocker. Storm always top4 but very lightweight in defence this season as are Bulldogs.

I hadn’t heard that about Bellamy. Different circumstances, but it’s sad to see such a brilliant career ending in such a sharp and sudden decline, like Brian Clough’s. The league will be worrying about the future of one of their expensive outposts, particularly as the new Perth team seems to be slow out of the blocks.
On the Dogs, I listen to a not-particularly-good podcast by two Newcastle fans, who are full of spiteful glee at the influence of Adam O’Brien on the two clubs this season. “You picked a wooden spoon coach to run your attack, what did you expect to happen?” | | | |

Yeh working from home Thursday and Friday mornings with the NRL is just perfect, always gutted when the season ends.
Love that Justin Holbrook is going well again, really liked him at St Helens and Newcastle have been sht for too long.
