Terrible season for canberra raiders. From minor premiership winners to a bottom 4 side. Fallen off a crevasse.
we have Not come to terms with the new style of NRL and adjudicating style which weighs obscenely in favour of basketball style scoring end to end try fest with the balance between attack and defence wildly off kilter in favour of attack,
48-38 scorelines every game or 50 point blow outs settled before half time have ruined the game for the sake of so called entertainment. Magic round was about as entertaining as a pot of crown misty buff paint.
one of the best ganes i ever saw was last year between the bulldogs and penrith which ended in a 6-8 scorline. The Nrl is just like watching the harlem fking globetrotters every week. ruined.

Think you're missing Fogarty a lot this year. Whilst I reckon Sanders has the makings of a very good half back, think you can see decision making still needs a bit of work. He's been great since coming to Manly as has been exactly what the side has needed, playing in a structured way and an upgrade on DCEs kicking game.
Yeah do agree it has been a bit of a frustrating watch this year, especially with things that are 6 agains one week not being 6 agains in the game after. Far too much influence from the bunker as well on things. Take the Raiders game on Thursday with that decision for the "elbow" on Ray Stone. Agreed as well the Roosters Cowboys was the best game for a neutral to watch, especially with how gutsy they were in that second half where the reffing and bunker were questionable to say the least.
With Origin really not sure how they'll ref it. One thing for sure is that it isn't a great indictment on reffing down here that Ashley Klein is seen as the best ref. |  | | |

Back into Super League, I only saw the last few minutes of the Leigh match last night & couldn't believe how Hull magically contrived to give Leigh their last try. Mind you, it still needed help from the officials as I'm sure there were 3 forward passes for the try & the last one not even borderline!
Have Hull really fallen this far, or are they suffering a short term period of multiple injuries affecting them? | | | |

I dont think raiders have ever recovered from that prelim last year against the broncos. we had that game won 3 times only for tries to be taken off and then walsh putting in a freak of the ages performance. just not the same side this year, even with jamal leaving and sanders replacing him. mentally we are cooked.
cant wait for origin this week if reffed with common sense,
I love the raiders. hate to say it , but they have kind of replaced QPR in my heart, and i've been a rangers fan since since '77.

its got to the point now mate i don't even celebrate a raiders try as the bunker always go into zapruder film mode and then disallow it. such a shame the most magnificent sport in the world is being decimated by ad hoc rules that differ from week to week.

Yes mate, moved to the Beaches last year and similar to you have massively got into it. Will still watch the odd Rs game if they are at a vaguely sociable hour but fair to say NRL takes up most my sporting support now. Already been to Townsville, Brisbane for Magic Round and have a Gold Coast New Zealand trip booked up for the rest of the year
Well it certainly wasn't a VlandysBall fest last night against the Titans but grinding a win out without our Origin Players and Hopoate was if anything even more satisfying. Absolutely no doubt we'd have lost that under Siebold. Did really confirm though whilst I reckon well play finals it'll be next 2 years where we could be a proper threat to winning the comp.
Yeah was a shame last year about the Raiders. Think most neutrals were behind you as well over here. Suspect it might be get ducks in a row for next year, and maybe get a couple of more mobile forwards to replace the likes of Papali'i. See there were no charges for Horsbrough and Smithies which I dare say makes it the more frustrating some of those decisions Thursday. | | | |

Went last night. Absolutely no way NSW win that 13 v 13. Cleary superb for last 30 but agree on Strange being MoM. Tackle on Munster v important. Plenty of changes needed though for Game 2. Haas and Mitchell back should help to start. Cannot believe the Ponga sending off has caused any debate. Not wrapped, and clearly a shoulder to the head first. The real disgrace is that he doesn't cop a ban owing to it being a rep game and yet Koula is stood down for 2 games on concussion protocol. Either way, NSW won't get away playing like they did for 60 minutes again. | | | |

You can never tell how players will respond. AFB and Barnett were abysmal, McLean and Strange lapped it up, as did Walker. Then you’ve got Crichton, who’s having a rotten season and looked pretty lost most of the night (though NSW collectively didn’t seem to have any plan to follow), yet pulled an incredible bit of skill and imagination out when his team looked completely sunk. I’m just back from a few weeks in Ireland (hence the close Didi Hamann watching, worst beard dandruff I’ve seen on a former player), and I’ve looked at nothing league-related so so I could watch Origin 2 as live on my return. Queensland were magnificent, Cobbo, Walker, Toia and Max Plath, sneakily magnificent, might be playing for another decade, but feck me, Laurie Daley? There must be hundreds of Under 9s coaches who could make something resembling a purse out of so much silk. His management of the bench was abysmal and there was no game plan whatsoever.
By the way, Origin Ashley Klein is a cracking referee, much better than the weekly version. [Post edited 4 Jul 23:32]
